Izzy’s said the words more times than once in the past eighteen years of marriage, but he means them this time. More than he ever has before, anyway.
At the prow of the very expensive and very unnecessary boat parked in the driveway, Edward - Izzy’s idiot (soon-to-be-ex) husband - sighs and rolls his eyes.
“Come on, Iz!” Ed shouts. He’s wearing a stupid fucking captain’s hat and has one foot propped against the rail. “The boat is an investment! And it’ll be fun.”
Or, how Izzy Hands saves his marriage (and gains a boyfriend) by getting a divorce.

Summary
He wants to say he’s glad that Lucius didn’t leave, but he can’t. He wants to ask why he decided to stay. There’s a lot of things he wants to say, he just can’t say them. He isn’t sure why. He’s not scared. Izzy would rather get thrown overboard than ever admit he’s scared. But, he can’t think of another word to describe how he’s feeling.
So he only responds with a hum.

He rubs his eyes with the back of his ungloved hand, the tears seeming to slowly be coming to a stop. The tears. Oh. There he is, crying in front of Lucius again. Why does he keep doing this? Surely Lucius must be tired of having to listen and watch Izzy cry so much. Surely he doesn’t have much respect left for the first mate, not that he can blame the scribe. It was unbecoming. Unseemly. Blackbeard’s fearsome first mate reduced to a puddle of tears on the floor over something as silly as a nightmare.
What happened to him? Why is he like this? Why can’t he just keep it together for one night? Is that really too much to ask for now?

Izzy didn’t believe in tales of sea monsters, but Stede Bonnet made him doubt, so sure was he that the man was a Siren whose voice was specially honed to drain out the life, the light, and everything special about Blackbeard, to take the greatest pirate who ever sailed the seas and reduce him to little more than his needy whore, or worse: his woman.

“I don’t fit anymore,” he continues. “Not with this fuckin’ crew.” He directs that line to Stede, watches how his eyebrows furrow a bit. “Not by your side.” Ed closes his eyes, and Izzy looks down at his hands. He can’t fuckin’ breathe. He’s drowning now, can’t force enough air into his fuckin’ lungs.
He should’ve known Ed wouldn’t let him slip out of their lives. Izzy can’t escape Blackbeard any easier than Ed can. It’s the only life he’s really known, really loved.
That life is gone.Or: Izzy questions how he fits into Ed and Stede's life after Stede comes back. Things can't go back to the way they were before, and they can't stay the same.

Summary
For the prompt:
The Stede + Izzy duel never happens, but tensions are still high between Izzy, Stede, and the crew of the Revenge. Calico Jack still shows up (though not at Izzy's behest, and not to lead Ed away so that the British can take Stede) and he and Ed still have a grand old time unleashing their inner frat boy.
It all comes to a head when, onboard the Revenge, Jack catches Izzy with his whip instead of Karl. The resulting injury is pretty severe and causes quite the commotion... shortly after Stede arrives on deck, Jack blurts that he doesn't know why everyone's so upset all of a sudden--it's not like this is the first time he's whipped Izzy. Turns out, he used to brutalize Izzy while they were aboard Hornigold's ship. Izzy covers up like he does because his entire back is a cacophony of scars he'd received by Jack's hand.
Izzy would very much like the ground to open and swallow him whole. Ed is horrified. Stede is already drawing down on Jack... because sometimes, you need a weapon a bit more tangible than kindness.

Summary
Stede wants to teach the crew to swim, Izzy thinks the idea is stupid (and has nothing to do with the fact that he can’t swim and is nervous to be in the water). Everything goes wrong. Nothing works as a catalyst to talk about feelings as well as near death experiences, and even that is still iffy for Izzy.
When Izzy challenged Stede to the duel Ed ordered him to stand down, and they all continued to sail on the revenge as a happy family, with some of the crew (Izzy) struggling a bit with the learning curve more than others.
Everyone is happy and nothing hurts. Except Izzy, who gaslights himself. He’ll be okay though.

Summary
Izzy was exhausted to his bones. He maybe always had been, maybe hadn’t realized it until Stede fucking Bonnet took some of Blackbeard’s attention and then fucked off out of his life, leaving Izzy down a toe, holding the fucking bag.
In the captain’s quarters, he found Blackbeard throwing knives at his own fictionalized image, the one Izzy had ripped from one of Bonnet’s books to demand Blackbeard’s return.
Izzy forgot to be careful what he wished for when he pushed him over this new edge, he supposed. That was on him.

Summary
He looks the fucking same, is all Izzy could think as he watched Jack fumble aboard the Revenge. He had to take the loading plank because he couldn’t climb the ladder with his wrists tied behind his back, Jim shoving him aboard. He pitched forward with a groan, his knees and face hitting the deck with a dull thud. He was fucking pathetic. Filthy with piss and grime, hungover, bleeding sluggishly from a head wound with blood dripping into his eyes.
Izzy was so terrified looking down at him that he almost forgot how to breathe.

Or: Izzy has been hiding the fact that he’s trans his entire life, even from Ed, to keep himself safe at sea. The problem is that Jack knows and has been using it to keep him quiet and complacent for years. They both know the bitter truth - if the crew ever found out, the consequences Izzy’s anatomy would be greater than Jack’s abuse.
Unfortunately for Jack, the Revenge is a different kind of ship with a different kind of crew.

Alpha Ed sends beta Izzy away before he can challenge Stede to the duel and tells him he thinks Izzy would be happier on another ship, though they both know that's a lie. Ed expects Izzy to just go back to the Queen Anne. He's shocked (and furious) when word comes that Izzy is sailing with an old rival instead. When Ed hears where thier ship is docked he goes, intent on confronting Izzy for the betrayal.
He doesn't expect to find the Alpha Captain dragging along a (now) Omega Izzy, broken and bonded.
Izzy had been bitched to hurt him. The world tilts and all he can feel is rage and guilt.

Ed didn't move except to prop his hands behind his head, seeming to give Izzy free rein to do as he pleased. Izzy wasn't fooled though. He'd been given a specific task and any deviation from it, even when Ed was this relaxed, would only end badly for them both. Oh, Izzy wanted it to end badly. They weren’t like the men who could lean shoulder-to-shoulder on cold nights, or shared hammock space easy as sharing a flask. The crack of Ed's fist was the most Izzy could hope for and if he was lucky, truly blessed for a night, Ed would strip off his gloves and land the blow against Izzy's cheek—not a single bit of leather between them.
For a moment, Izzy considered doing something to stoke that rage... until he realized it wasn't necessary.
The smoke must have been getting to him too. Ed's pants-leg was still drawn up above his knee, bare skin glittering like gold.
