i think the idea that youre so close to someone you cant help but empathize with them, reflexively find ways to help them, is really sweet. i like the idea that he wasnt even trying to do it, but couldnt help but to imagine a world where jack had no one to talk to, and couldnt help but to get upset by it.

Danny would have bet large sums that his people were Okies, migrants who'd fled the Dust Bowl with the banks at their heels, snapping up their homes and their land. There was something post-apocalyptic about Rusty's angle on the world. Besides, nobody who put that much work into being effortlessly cool could have come from anywhere but California.

Kakashi was out on a mission, the air thick with tension and the scent of danger. He had been gravely wounded, his body battered and bloodied from the fierce encounter. Now, he found himself fleeing, his breaths ragged, pursued relentlessly by a member of the Akatsuki cloaked in a swirling orange mask that seemed to twist and dance like a living flame. The masked figure’s presence was suffocating, a shadow of menace closing in with every step. At some point, as the world blurred around him, Kakashi felt a dull, throbbing pain erupt in his skull-a heavy, merciless ache that clawed at his senses. His vision darkened, his legs gave way, and he collapsed, unconscious, into the unforgiving embrace of the earth.

You don't see anything, he wants to say, the words simmering in his suddenly tight throat.
