His father had a powerful fire quirk, and while his mother didn't have a particularly strong quirk it could be used in a variety of ways. So why was he different? Why was he the exception? It didn't make sense. To his logical brain his quirk should have something to do with the manipulation or movement of fire, right? So why did he have.. nothing? It didn't make sense.
Until he was seventeen, that's when the missing quirk factor in his body clicked into place.

Aizawa Shouta has been turned into a cat (wonderful). He still has classes to teach (unfortunate). As he tries to find someone who can help get un-turned into a cat, he runs into a familiar Villain, who decides the stray cat he found in a thunderstorm would make a wonderful pet for the League of Villains (really terrible). He maybe, possibly, becomes attached to the League of Villains (concerning). Now he has to figure out how to help them heal and be happy, and it may involve rescuing a little girl from the yakuza and permanently dealing with the boogieman of the underground (honestly, mostly just exhausting).

Despite his casual air, Shouta was laser focused. He took in and processed information in a snap. Usual things, like the visual appearance of the room he was entering, but also things unique to Heroes and things unique to cats. The room had narrow dimensions, cold tile floor, pale blue walls, a bed in one corner and a dresser in the other, and no handle at all on the inside of the door. It smelled of laundry detergent and disinfectant and the faint but unmistakable scent of blood and medicine. There were boxes pushed up against the floorboards, what looked like children’s toys, dolls and stuffed animals and coloring books, all in their original, untouched packaging. There was a little girl kneeling on the bed, fear on her face and pain written in every line of her body.

With a bit of help, he tries to figure out how he got here, while being a spy in The League of Villains. Izuku went to cat cafes on the regular, maybe once or twice a fortnight. It was a way for him to escape reality and spill his guts to a cat. It was nice it felt...safe. After a few times of going there he noticed someone who looked like a very sleep deprived homeless man he logically assumed he was a regular and didn't really pay him mind. But after a good few sessions at the café, he quickly realised that holy shit that’s eraserhead! of course usually people wouldn’t know who he was he is a under ground hero after all but he’d had a few run ins with the pro… well more like walking trying to calm his racing mind at night, seeing him on the top of a roof, going on an internet rabbit hole and fan-boying over who he is. I mean what pro hero fights quirkless!? But what if he wasn’t the pro and Izuku was just insane or what if he doesn’t want to be publicly recognised. So Izuku kept to himself.
