Summary
Zuko... may have been hasty, when he got on that raft instead of finding his friends and at least seeing if he needed to pull this disappearing act. It was day three of sitting of a raft in the middle of the ocean though, and a little too late for him to do anything about his regrets.
He had other stuff he could focus on, like perfecting the Dancing Dragon and trying to figure out why Uncle was steering them to the northern tip of the Fire Nation.
Meanwhile, the Gaang have left the North Pole and are on their way to pick up Bumi and round out the gaang, they just had to stop and talk to the General Fong guy first. This shouldn't lead to any complications, right?

Summary
Book one ends with two major diffrences: 1. Sokka went on the mission with Hahn (it did not go well) 2. Zhao survives the North Pole and that proves unfortunate for everybody (except Zhao, obviously)
Imprisoned on Zhao’s war ship, Sokka and Zuko have to work together to survive. They are not very enthusiastic about this prospect.
And they argue.
A lot.

Summary
Part of the Instinctual Verse, please read those first!
Zuko is glad that he had started getting his bending back before they hit the frigid North Pole, but it turns out that the Northern Water Tribe doesn't feel the same way.
They hadn't even gotten close to the city yet and he was half frozen in a block of ice, freezing and bound as his captors ignore Katara, Aang, and Sokka's protests. He really should have known something like this would happen, but as usual he'd underestimated his luck and now he had to come up with a way to convince the Northern Chief to allow a firebender to walk free in his village.
He HAD to, because he wasn't going to let himself become a prisoner. Not again.

Summary
Gyatso opened his eyes. And this was odd, because last he remembered, he was staring into a sea of Fire Nation soldiers, the ominous skull-like helmets facing him. He had been ready to make his last stand, staring death in the eye and accepting it.
He looked down at his hands— paws. white tiny little paws connected to thin lanky arms of white fur, a flap hanging off each limb. He’d seen these enough to recognize them anywhere, the small hands and wings of the flying lemurs that always circled the temples.
Then it clicked.
He was a flying lemur now.
[Or, Gyatso is reincarnated into Momo and the Gaang has no idea.]

The New Fire Lord (And How the Fire Nation Learned to Trust the Son of Ozai) by avatays

Summary
Knowing Zuko’s family, it was natural for the Fire Nation to be apprehensive of his rule – specifically the workers at the palace. Many of the Fire Lords had used capital punishment, abuse, and banishment to assert dominance and their right to the throne. Those are Zuko’s ancestors, surely he would rule with the same iron fist.
They had forgetten that Zuko was a victim of such rule. And he would prove to the nation and the world that the Fire Nation is no longer to be feared – and neither is he. Because he is not Ozai. He is Zuko.- Language:

Summary
“I think he’s sick.” Bato says flatly. “So unless you want the next meeting to include the Fire Lord puking all over the budget scrolls, maybe see if he's okay?”
Hakoda glances up the hallway, like perhaps Katara will appear and take over dealing with the prickly teenager. Of course, his daughter is off treating injured refugees with the Avatar, and Bato is still staring at him expectantly, arms crossed.
“Fine,” He sighs, and he claps Bato on the cheek before heading into the room.
Or: Zuko falls ill not long after Ozai's defeat. Hakoda sits with him and learns some unpleasant truths about his childhood.

Summary
When Zuko dashes into the sitting room, it is with the same wide-eyed panic that he ran from Azula’s smoking hands when he was a child. Iroh bites down on a smile. Zuko looks the same, even now, a decade later with a scar blossomed over one side of his face, green and brown robes replacing the solitary reds of his childhood. His hair is puffed up around his face. He looks like a very frightened, very windswept turtle-dove.
Zuko dives behind Iroh just as Aang breezes to a stop in the doorway.
Five times Zuko hid behind Iroh, plus one time Zuko stood proudly in front of him.

Summary
Bilbo Baggins has been a hobbit for many long years and he should very much like to keep it that way, thank you very much.
An old friend drops by Bag End with the offer of an adventure and despite Bilbo's refusal, the idea of only thirteen dwarves and a wizard facing a dragon may just convince him yet. After all, he has experience with the Great Dragons of the North. Once upon a time, he was one.

Summary
King-in-Exile Thorin Oakenshield leaves the Blue Mountains and travels East, searching for work, and news of his father, and any who will join him on a quest to retake his homeland. At an inn in Michel Delving, he crosses paths with a Hobbit called Bo Took, who turns out to be the most enjoyable company Thorin’s had in ages. But Bo is also elusive, secretive, and somehow unsettling. Thorin also meets Bilbo Baggins, who is charming and inquisitive and very strangely ill—everyone knows it, even if no one will say it to his face. Entirely improper and definitely irrational, Thorin’s fascination with these two Hobbits threatens to lead him away from his quest, as he spends his nights with Bo and his days with Bilbo. For his part, Bilbo just wants to know what’s going on, and why he can never remember where he’s been, or what he’s been doing. Bo Took and Bilbo Baggins share the same face, and the same home, but they are not at all the same, and Thorin knows this and hates it—and there are too many questions, and too few answers all around.

Summary
Dwarves are born with a bone-deep knowledge of their One, but Thorin stops feeling the pull of his after the dragon attacks Erebor. Needless to say, he is surprised, and not initially pleased, to find his One living behind a round green door decades later.
Hobbits find a seed that represents their innermost self and can offer it to someone else to plant. This creates a bond as strong as deep roots in the earth between them. It is just like Bilbo, after years of thinking that no one would want his, to offer his soul-seed to a dwarf that does not understand gardening metaphors.
But just because they have found each other does not make the quest to reclaim Erebor any easier, and in the end a sacrifice is still made.
Thorin has to trust in the strength of the bond between himself and his One, because otherwise he will never believe that the sacrifice was worth it.
