“It's… he pulled them,” Jax blurts.
Pomni blinks up at him, uncomprehending.
“Your… ears?”
Jax nods, swallowing back the bile building in his throat.
“Pulling them hurts?” Pomni guesses.
“You… he pulled them until I–” he sucks in a breath, letting it out in a shaky exhale. “I'm not… It's like a costume, Pomni. He tore it off.”
Jax grapples with the aftermath of the torment nexus.

Jax is exhausted. Keeping up his "funny" facade day in and day out is finally taking a toll on him, especially after his huge fight with Pomni, the last person in the circus who gave him the time of day. So when he finds a strange new friend, who offers him a curious way out of his anxious predicament, he takes it - only to start slipping away in front of everyone's eyes.

After Jax pressed the wrong button, everyone is -now more than ever- doomed to remain imprisoned in the circus.
Something snaps inside Zooble's head that day - it's HIS fault, all of this, they having to endure their life inside this horrid and fake place, where nothing is real, nothing sitcks. Everyday everything resets, this is not real, this is not even life.
But the moment Zooble and Jax fought... something felt nothing like the circus, it felt real.
That wrong and sickening feeling of being held in a world where nothing matters, nothing is permanent and pain is the only proof of existence keeps creeping inside Zooble's mind, but not just inside their mind - Jax's too. It's not right - but at the same time... it's so fitting.
