Summary
Curufinwë Atarinkë is not his father. He is the shadow of the flame on the wall, the soft ember in the ashes—a fragment. A fraction. A facsimile. He is a spark that has yet to catch.
He is the age his father was when his parents first fell in love.
Given that, he is unsure why it has not happened to him yet.
[Curufin, marriage, love, and expectation. Or, alternatively, how Curufin gets away with the greatest con he’s ever pulled: his own wedding.]

Summary
“I suppose Curufin isn’t technically inaccurate,” he said, and his voice was deep, crisply-accented, and amused.
“Fëanor,” Elrond breathed.
Fëanor’s smile widened, like the glare of the rising sun. “Hello, grandson.”

Summary
It was a familiar scene, all of them gathered around a convalescent Maedhros; Celegorm paced the length of the small tent, all his terror turned to hard fury at the base of his throat:
“We could have their heads for this,” he growled. “We should have their heads for this. They tried to kill the king!”
[Or: Just when Maedhros is about to surrender the crown, an unlikely trio of conspirators attempt to assassinate him. His brothers . . . take care of it.]

Summary
His face hovered over Dior’s, blood-streaked and savage, his awful lips curled in a wide, sneering snarl. His teeth glinted in his dark open maw, slick-sharp and dripping, as he bent his silver head—
—and, in a sickening rip of red flesh, tore out Dior’s throat.
[Or: Dior keeps dreaming of the man who killed him.]

“Do you believe in redemption?” he said.
Celebrían responded immediately, without hesitation. “Yes.”
“I believe in mercy,” said Frodo, tilting his head. “And I believe in second chances. So yes, I suppose I do.”

Summary
From the waters of Alqualondë to the ruins of Tol Himling, the Oath pulls and pushes, waxes and wanes: binds the sons of Fëanor together, and just as fiercely drives them apart—until they are nothing but a song on the wind, and a singer by the shore.
[Or: Maglor loses his brothers, one by one.]

Summary
“What do you want?” he asked, quietly.
What do I want? Fëanor echoed, and laughed: swirling at Eärendil’s shoulders, slipping through his hair, basking in the closeness of his borrowed light. I want the same thing you want, he told him. I want my family back, and I want to be free.
[Or: Fëanor may be dead, but that doesn’t mean he’s done. A companion piece for Conspire to Ignite.]

Summary
“Hello,” said the Elf, tilting his head and studying the children. They stared back, wide-eyed. “Who are you?”
The two boys exchanged a puzzled glance. “You don’t remember?” said the one on the right. "I'm Réd."
“I’m Rín,” said the other.

Summary
“Well?” said Oromë, and his voice was barely a voice at all—it was the building notes of a howling wind, a hunting-horn; the thunder of hooves along a well-worn forest path. The sounds of his domain, shaped like stubborn clay into the semblance of words. “You summoned me.”
Once, Celegorm would have dropped, without hesitation, to his knees. Instead, he bowed his head. “You called,” he said.
[Celegorm is not forgiven. Oromë isn’t, either. They come to an understanding, anyway.]

Summary
“You will go to him?”
“Yes,” he said. “Of course.”
“However far you have to go?”
“Anywhere,” said Fingon, nearly laughing at the thought; he had walked into hell for Maedhros once, and if she had told him Thangorodrim had risen from the sea and Maedhros hung there once more, he would walk into hell again.
[At the dawn of the Fourth Age, when the leaders of the rebellious Noldor are pardoned, Fingon the Valiant returns to life. But something is missing. Deep in the Halls of Mandos, Maedhros languishes in a prison of regret . . . and once again, Fingon will stop at nothing to get him back.]

Summary
The first words Caranthir spoke to them, after veritable years of separation, were, “You’d better not be here to beg money off of me again.”
“Hello to you, too, Moryo,” Celegorm drawled, rolling his eyes. “Good to see you again, too, Moryo. Why, we’re doing wonderfully, and yourself?”
[Or: Curufin, Celegorm, and Celebrimbor visit Caranthir in Thargelion. With them is a young Artanáro—who will only later be known as Gil-galad.]

Summary
In the cool, ghostly mirror-light of the sea, the gray of Maglor’s eyes looked poison green, like a sea-rotted corpse, like the sickly pus oozing from an infected wound. His lips were sharp and chapped, as though battle-songs and harsh commands had cut them down into blades.
“Well?” he said. “Can I sit at your fire, pretty songbird, or will you sing me to my final sleep at last?”
[Or: In the Second Age, Daeron and Maglor meet again, and both of them give in to temptation.]

Maedhros & Maglor Week, Day 4: Heroism/Villainy
“You know,” said Maglor, quite conversationally, “last night, the boys asked me if you hated them.”
“I barely even speak to them," Maedhros said.
Maglor smiled, a sharp tug of his lips. “Exactly.”
[Or: Maedhros used to be Maglor's hero. But these days, he’ll play the bad guy, if it means Elrond and Elros think of Maglor a little more kindly in comparison.]

“My Lord Himring,” said Maglor cheerfully.

Maglor made a show of looking about himself loftily. “Oh, I suppose I’ll grace you with my presence.”

Summary
“Maglor called him an usurping upstart brat,” Elros pointed out, very, very quietly. “He wouldn’t have done that if he was Fingon’s son. He’d be Fingon’s rightful heir.”
“Yeah, well—” Elrond made another gesture, this one translating approximately to ‘you know how it is with the House of Finwë,’ which everyone unfortunately did. “I’m not going to go up and ask him.”
