Soda realises there is literally no point in arguing or protesting, no matter how much he might like to. Darry has that look of bulldog determination on his face, and there’s not a force on earth that can move it when he gets his mind on something.
“Head hurts like a bitch, I feel like I haven’t slept in a week, and my chest is a little tight.” Soda lists and, as if to prove the point, he wheezes out a cough that only seems to tighten the rubber band around his ribs.

“Um, my brother’s really sick,” he explains, his voice shaky. “He’s been throwing up for, like, twelve hours and he can’t—he can’t keep anything down and he’s got a real bad fever and he’s asking for our mom and I don’t—” He lets out another strangled sob. “I don’t know what to do.”
“I’ll be there in fifteen minutes,” she says. Darry chokes out a sigh of relief.

Summary
Being queer in the 1960s was not for the weak, it was a time of secrecy and deception, being unwanted and unsafe sex. Everything was risky, relaxing wasn’t even a word in anyone’s vocabulary. Being fifteen and queer in a good for nothing town was an even worse situation that Ponyboy Curtis just had to be a part of.
He’d always known that something was wrong with him, he preferred reading books and drawing to playing football and while he was a good fighter violence wasn’t up to his taste. He wasn’t like his brothers who could fight for the fun of it even though they knew that he felt differently from them. But they’d always thought that he was just a late bloomer when it came to girls.
Or Ponyboy is queer and dating Curly Shepard in a homophobic time, he’s scared of being outed.

When Ponyboy Curtis woke up there was a stabbing pain in his head and a blurry surroundings. He was on the floor in the changing rooms though he had no clue how he’d gotten there, he felt as if all the energy had been drained from his body. Small events started to come back to him, he had gym third period which explained where he was and his next lesson was maths.
With no clue what time it was and the knowledge that he couldn’t lay on the floor forever Ponyboy dragged himself up. As he managed to sit up the surroundings started to become blurry and he found himself touching his head in a futile attempt to dull the pain. One leg at a time he stood up and found himself leaning on the wall to stay upright. He hurriedly blinked and then felt something liquid pour from his nostrils.
Or Ponyboy Curtis gets injured by believes it’s nothing.
Day 6+10: Blow to the head and not realising they’re injured.
