If Damian heard him, he showed no sign.
“Damian,” Tim said again. “I’m going to move you so your back is against me, okay? But I’m not letting you go, you’re staying with me, okay?”
This time, a movement, so small that it was almost lost amongst the shaking.
“I know you don’t want to,” Tim said. “But it’s going to help.”
“I do not,” Damian rasped. “Require-”
Damian coughed, the sound grating against Tim’s ears. The boy curled closer against Tim, the cough petering out into what was almost a whimper.
“Easy, Kid,” Jason said. “You know the drill. We can’t have Bruce’s sweet little bio child carking it from something so dumb.”
Damian’s hand shifted then, while the other remained latched onto Tim’s shirt. It poked out from amongst the blanket, or at least a single finger did.
“Yeah yeah,” Jason grinned, though it didn’t quite reach his eyes. “Fuck me and all that. But you’re still gonna have to go on the mask.”

He leans in, face so uncomfortably close to Damian’s that he can feel his hot breath all over again. “I mean, I get it. I’d do anything for my Damian too. He’s not like you, though. Mine won’t even let me touch him, y’know? He’s got a Kryptonite blade that he always– it doesn’t matter. We’re gonna trade.”

“I have no use for broken weapons,” she finally says and pushes him once, sending him reeling. He’s spinning in an abyss, swallowed up by the void. “Don’t you know that, Damian?”
He knows. It was one of the first lessons he’d learned in the League. He’s disposed of many broken weapons himself, always the perfect blade, always the perfect pupil. And now look at him. Disgraced and disowned.
And then in the darkness, a familiar red cape descends from the sky like an omen.
“No,” Damian breathes out because he can deal with his family tossing him out, he can deal with his own mother calling him a disgrace but he can’t handle Jon’s disappointment. Jon is the one and only person to stay with him not out of a familial obligation but out of choice. He is the only one who Damian chose and who chose him back.

“Leave him alone!” Jon’s voice gets through everything else, pulling Damian to consciousness faster.
He pulls his heavy eyes open, blinking heavily. Two figures come into view. One is Jon, attached to a chair with thick restraints. Damian can’t tell what they’re made out of from here, but he can assume. The other is a man in a white face mask. Damian is restrained to a table, tilted at an angle.
“Tell me how to get his mask off,” the man demands, turning to Jon.
