It was— weird, looking at him. If Mike didn't know any better, be might actually believe it was Will in a Halloween costume or something. Aside from his attire, the only big difference was that he was clearly older than Mike's Will.
Eventually, the other Will stood up gracefully, which only served to point out how his dark blue pants hugged against him perfectly in several places, clearly tailored to perfection, making Mike's face heat up for some reason. Fancy gold embroidery decorated the sides of the pants, covering the seams flawlessly, swirling and dancing around the fabric like rays of light.
He was beautiful. It was undeniable.
"My apologies," the gorgeous figure spoke. "I did not mean to crash land here. I am the King's Consort William, Head Physician of the Kingdom of Ardenia." He punctuated his titles with a bow. "It's nice to meet you all."
OR: Cleradin Will and Mike end up in canon verse, right before a crawl. Loosely a s5 rewrite. don't think too hard about it

Ah," said Mike, offering a hand to help her up. "You're awake now."
Slowly, as if she was trudging through quicksand, she managed to take the offered appendage. In doing so, she caught sight of her wrist-- her purple sleeve sliding down slightly to reveal the ink stained into her skin.

"Here," the man helped her up to her feet. She thought he was probably the one named Mike. "There are better places to take a nap than on the ground, you know."
OR: Eleven wakes up in a field with no memories other than her name and a vague dream of killing the man who found her. All she has is a tattoo of a number, a tome, and the clothes on her back, but why not join the war effort and help the first people who have ever shown her kindness?

“It’s always about El, isn’t it?” Will mumbled, sadly gazing at him.
“Well-- it’s just this time of year, I guess. It’s been a little over three years since I lost her.”
Will gritted his teeth. “Since you lost her? You aren’t the only one that misses her, you know.”
Mike stumbled a little, his eyes wide. “I-- I know we all miss her, Will. I just--”
“Just what, Mike?” Will couldn’t stop the rage bubbling at his surface, his arms tightly crossed over his chest. “You think because she was your girlfriend means more than the fact that she’s my sister? That she isn’t our parents’ daughter?”
“That’s not fair,” he said weakly.
OR: post S5 byler because I can.
OR: 3 years after Vecna is defeated, Will and Mike find each other again (They never really lost each other in the first place). -

Summary
The boy grinned at him-- it was wide, lopsided, and seemed to somehow perfectly emphasize his bright eyes, which were practically sparkling with joy and happiness. Will wanted to draw him. He wanted to capture this moment in time and frame it. He wanted to take this image of this boy and his eyes and the curl of his lips and curve of his cheek and fold it up carefully, storing it right next to his heart.
He just didn’t know why.
The boy gave Will a small wave and laughed; he laughed like his voice was composed of harps and lyres and he was the musician. He looked at Will like he was the best thing he had ever seen.
And Will--
Will had no idea who this guy was.
OR: Vecna loses. In a last-ditch effort to take down Will along with him, he makes Will forget.
OR: Will forgets Mike. He also forgets about the Upside Down, but that’s not as important, right?

“Wow,” he said instead, trying to ignore how his heartbeat sped up. “She looks--”
“Pretty good,” Mike cut him off, sounding nonchalant, which Dustin could not stand for.
“Pretty good? JUST pretty good? Dude, she’s stunning! Do you not have eyes, man?” Dustin complained, gesturing toward the girl with his arms. He flailed and smacked Mike in the arm.
Lucas raised an eyebrow at him. Dustin ignored it.
Or: Dustin (and Suzie) are El’s love interests instead of Mike. It changes nothing.

“’Morning,” Mike grumbled, voice low from sleep.
“Noon,” Max corrected, as if she hadn’t only woken up thirty minutes before him.
“Wow,” he replied, squinting at the light. “Nobody thought to wake me?”
It happened casually after that, so casually it almost didn’t register at first. El laughed at something Lucas said, then turned toward Mike and leaned in, instinctively, easily, pressing a kiss to his lips like it was the most logical way to say good morning to him.

or: Mike and Will have been together for a year and a half when El comes back. The problem is, El assumes she and Mike are still together. The bigger problem is that Mike doesn’t realize Will thinks he might choose her.

“Why? Why won’t you ever tell me what’s wrong with you?” Carlton’s voice is filled with frustration, and it sounds like nails on a chalkboard to Will.
What is wrong with him. It’s such a loaded question. Why does Will wake up screaming sometimes? Why can’t Will handle the cold? Why are there days when Carlton’s hands on him feel like being kept under water with no way up?
And why can’t Will tell Carlton the truth? How could Will possibly explain it without sounding insane? What is the human translation for being taken and kept in another dimension, violated, and possessed, only to then be violated yet again—
This part of him is something Will is never going to be able to share with anyone else. That nobody would understand.
Why won’t you tell me what’s wrong with you.
“Because you wouldn’t get it.” Will somehow manages to say it without gagging.
And then, Carlton goes in for the kill.
“Oh, but Mike does?”

After leaving Hawkins to go to college in the great city of San Franscisco, Will finally finds someone who loves him. The only problem is that the only person in the world who knows him, is someone else.
