Looking back, it may have been a little naïve to think that proposing the moment the war was over would be a great idea. In his defense, he did actually think that it would be quite romantic. He had this picture in his head of the moment that the battle was over, where Byleth would run to him, leap into his arms. He would twirl her around and they would kiss oh so passionately because this was it! This was what they had been fighting for! After years of war, they’d finally won peace!
They’d pull apart to breathe and he’d breathlessly ask her to marry him. She’d stare at him, wide-eyed and awed, but she would nod with that smile that was so rare but oh so beautiful and kiss him again before he could even slip the ring on her finger. There would be clapping, maybe even a bit of cheering. It would have been great, right?
Unfortunately, things don't always go as planned.

Summary
Byleth struggles with an injury that she didn't realize was going to cause her such discomfort. With Sylvain noticing her absence from the caravan returning from battle, he quickly comes to her aid.
“It wasn’t really bleeding much at all until I started getting bumped about in the saddle.” Byleth's green eyes looked helplessly at Sylvain reflecting both the pain she felt and the disappointment that she hadn’t gotten the attention she should have.
“I don’t even have a vulnerary on me,” he muttered, knowing that his healing ability was lacking. “Now, I wish I had taken learning healing magic more seriously.”
“Yeah, this is one of those coulda, shoulda, woulda moments, for both of us,” she feebly attempted to joke.
