Bellara’s voice is muffled by her hands — both held up in front of her face to block the sight of the memory shimmering in front of them. Rook frowns — hands on his hips as he squints at the scene playing out.
“Most likely for a celebration of some kind,” Neve answers before he can. There’s an unexpected appreciation in her eyes when Rook turns to her that makes his brows raise slightly. She cocks one in return before turning to Bellara. “What, not up for a little tasteful nudity?”
“Some celebration,” Davrin says wryly.
“You consider that tasteful?” Lucanis questions at the same time.
“They’re wearing robes!” Rook points out, and the looks he gets in response are dry enough to kill a few oases.
“See-through robes,” Taash clarifies.
“They stop being see-through, like, halfway down their stomachs.” A woman walks past, and Rook winces. “Most of them.”
“Is this normal in Tevinter or something?” Bellara asks — voice tight. “No clothes at parties?”
“Yes,” Rook and Neve respond simultaneously — flat tones identical.
A fic about a rook, a wolf, and a healthy dose of hedonism.

Rook knows better than to touch magical items of unknown origins.
He does. He’s spent enough time surrounded by them in Tevinter — has had more than his fair share of near-death experiences due to curiosity and poor impulse control. He’s been working on it, though; was forced to during his first month with Varric after the dwarf finally got fed up with pulling his ass out of magically induced fires.
So he knew the moment his fingers first twitched in the direction of the shining book that he should’ve left the damned thing alone. It was propped up on a stark white pedestal and leaking the green fog of the Fade, and Rook should’ve turned around and walked back to Bellara — convinced her to leave the artifact that she was fucking with alone. He didn’t, though. He let the siren call of curiosity claw its way into his chest and pull him towards the open pages.
Just a peek, he had told himself.
It was, to say the least, a poor choice.

Summary

Then he is captured by the Venatori and saddled with a demon of Spite, and things become exponentially more complicated.

Lavellan has to be someone for everyone. For his people, a sacrifice - sundered from his clan in order to save them all. For the Inquisition, an icon - more embodiment of hope than man. For his advisors, a peace-maker - tasked with the choice and the consequence. Each iteration of himself is a necessary falsification, because for himself, he is a protector, maintaining the emotional walls that shield the volatile liability he knows he really is.

He won against Alduin the World-Eater, ended the civil war, managed to uphold four organizations at the same time and never once denied helping those in need, even if they sometimes did backstab him in the process. When all is said and done, Karkvar can only wish he had a chance to obtain something else, but as someone wise would say – conquering another's heart is a different matter entirely. He's never been the sharpest tool in the shed and now – he lacked the will to even try.
Of course his friends couldn’t just stand by and watch him fall into the depths of despair. If there ever was someone worthy of love, it would certainly be the legendary Dragonborn. The only question that stands: is there anyone worthy of him? Or maybe, just maybe, there is someone fated to our shouter extraordinaire?

He’s tongue-tied. A million thoughts run through his head at once, all arriving at Maker, I’ve been a bloody idiot. I let it go way too far.
“Listen, Tarquin. I— We think someone’s threatening me. It’s all too suspiciously close to reality. They’ve written about an organization called the Star Snakes, about a hero called The Scorpion. The names are changed, but that hardly matters when it gets so many details right. Dorian said there’s… There’s someone like you, too.”
OR: Because Tarquin is Tarquin, he gets himself in massive trouble by accidentally guessing what Ashur’s secret identity is, and writing a serial about it.

Their silence was the only answer he needed. The guilt weighed heavily on them, anyone could see it. He couldn't believe the others actually believed them when they said they didn't do it. And, oh, was that corpse brutalized. Far beyond what was necessary for her death. No, they – whatever part of them it was – enjoyed it.
They were quite the puzzle, for someone who cared about solving that sort of thing. All the parts of them seemed to clash, mixed together into a slurry of a mind that couldn't decide what it wanted to be. The naive murderer, the mad idealist – all of it got lost to the chaos in their head.
It was all the easier to control a person that didn't know who they were.

Tav is about to try to convince her it’s nothing, perhaps blame the exhaustion, maybe play it off as fever. He doesn’t get to, because another blade is added into the equation, slipped around Lae’zel so quickly and softly that neither of them notice before the owner speaks.
“You so much as twitch, gith, and I will cut your head clean off.” Astarion hisses into her ear. “You think he is the only one watching over me obsessively? It goes both ways, darling, we are never out of each other’s sight. Now drop the fucking sword.”
Lae’zel is frozen still for another moment before she curses lowly in her throat and drops her weapon, her hands slowly raising in surrender.
Astarion, defending him against a githyanki and making her bloody submit to him. Gods, Tav wants to kiss him stupid.
