“Are you okay?” Bryan asks, concerned, because Leon's face is beet red and he's starting to sweat on his forehead, which is extra alarming. Bryan's literally watched him perform hand to hand combat with a Tyrant and still not break a sweat. “You look really warm.”
“I'm fine,” Leon says in a rough voice, and when Bryan moves to touch his cheek, Leon's voice is high-pitched and panicked as he says, “wait, don't move!”
Bryan freezes.
He shifts his hips.

"how do i know this isn't a trick? i've been told, multiple times, that i'm not allowed to leave. hell, they're watching me right now, through the security cameras. you can't just waltz in here and decide to- to kidnap me like this!" bryan stammered, taking another step back, and grabbing a ramen packet, as if it would defend himself against this definitely-armed, very handsome man.

Lately, Leon found himself looking forward to very little. Time spent with Chris was one of the few exceptions, but unfortunately everyone knew Chris' heart was permanently soldered to his moral high horse, galloping toward some noble goal Leon knew he’d never measure up to.

One 9mm round, a small comfort when he was backed into a corner. If there was a bullet in the chamber, he could make it out alive. Now, it painted a different picture, but there was no less comfort.
He turned the Sentinel Nine over in his hands, feeling the textured grip. It was sturdy, resilient, easy to control with very little kick back, even when sweat soaked his palms. He could hold on and never let go. Maybe he never would."

"That's it," she whispered huskily, sweeping a hand down his chest then raking her nails back up to loosely wrap around his throat, feeling the bulge of the toy beneath her touch. "Perfect."

Leon was out of ammo. The realization came slowly to him, as he fumbled in his many belt pockets for some forgotten bullets, even though he knew he always kept track of how many rounds he had left. Pushing the Matilda back into its holster on his thigh, Leon unsheathed the knife in a broad swing, gripping it's handle tightly and assessed his situation. In any other circumstances, an empty magazine wouldn't have unnerved him, but as it was, he currently found himself pressed against the wall of an abandoned umbrella laboratory somewhere in the alpine mountains, the door opposite of him was sealed tightly, due to the sparse remnants of the emergency protocol still intact. Beyond it though, a mass of bodies was throwing itself against the glass, their mangled hands grabbing towards him.
or Leon has to handle more than he is capable of and has to grapple with his own loneliness.

Leon’s never had these problems before, sitting down to eat and yet not being able to stomach even a single bite. It’s not like he’s not trying, but the process of it has become increasingly difficult over the past few months and it doesn’t help that his schedule leaves him far too busy either.

Bryan nearly gives Leon a heart attack when he lifts his shirt and shows a haphazardly stuffed handgun that's sticking out of the waistband of his jeans.
“Don't put that there,” Leon says hurriedly, willing his heart to calm down. He keeps imagining the horror of it going off and blowing clean through Bryan's femur. “And - hey, wait. That's a standard glock that's issued to all American officers. Did you steal that?”
Bryan at least has the decency to blush in embarrassment as he hastily shoves the hem of his shirt back down.

Simon's eyes sharply cut up to meet his, his glare burning as he briefly paused undoing buttons. Ryland's grin was still plastered to his face and he knew it was only serving to get under Simon's skin.
"You think wearing those to a meeting was just 'same old, same old?'" He pointedly lowered his gaze to Ryland's pants, and—yeah, okay, maybe they were a size smaller than he usually wore but they still fit. "And that stunt you pulled dropping your pencil?"
"What!" A light laugh made his words stutter out of him. "I dropped my pencil! You wanted me to just leave it on the ground?"
Or Simon and Ryland both work on Project Hail Mary. Inevitably, they like to rile each other up, and Simon doesn’t like sharing. Surely fucking your hot coworker is fine as long as it’s behind closed doors. Right?
