When a confrontation with a powerful magic user goes awry, Damian is cursed, robbing him of his voice. Or, communicate without a fresh bruise appearing, that is.
What begins as an inconvenience quickly spirals into something far worse, as he finds himself struggling with the mounting realization: no one has noticed. As his silence deepens, so do the rifts with his family. He’s not helped by the many more sinister theories the people around him assume because of his new temperament.
One thing is certain: he really, really hates magic.

Summary
Mickey shifts his weight and turns to look at him and that’s when Ian can see it written all over his face, adding extra weight to the bags under his eyes.
It’s a look that’s crystal clear.
It’s a look that says, I’ve had a long ass day, full of entitled douchbags and people who just don’t fuckin get me.
Lately, Mickey’s had that look on his face a lot after work. It had to have something to do with slogging it out at a court mandated nine to five where your literal job description is to be the felon who chases down and roughs up the assholes no one else wants to deal with. Ian is as sympathetic as he can be, and he tries not to remind Mickey that at least he almost never gets pissed or puked on.
“Hey,” Mickey lifts his beer in salute and takes a sip and Ian can practically feel the need radiating off of him, even though Mickey’s fighting to keep balanced.
“Put that shit down. Now.” Ian orders as he kicks his work boots off and stalks around the couch he’s well aware of what his husband needs, and even after his own gruelling work shift, he’ll be damned if he doesn’t give it to him.

Ratchet rolled his optics. “For a checkup. I'm not even going to ask when the last time you did basic maintenance was. Save you the trouble of lying to me. C'mon, this thing can go on autopilot for a few hours.”
On their way back to the Lost Light, Drift reveals to Ratchet he’s been in some level of pain, constantly, for years.

Ian wakes to watch the hand pressed against his. The hand fidgeting with the wedding band on his ring finger.
There was a time when he knew where he ended and Mickey began.
“Morning,” his voice sounds distant, crusty with a night of too much sleep, heavy with the weight of sedatives.
The hand bends, fingers curve. Linking around Ian’s. His wedding band clinks against Mickey’s.
There was a time when Ian knew where he began and Mickey ended.
“Morning,” the breath on his neck rising goosebumps. Swaying through his hair and tickling his scalp with warmth and familiarity.
There was a time when the edges were brick and mortar. Hard, defined. There was a time when the edges were rusty barbed wire and broken chainlink fences. Dangerous and twisted.
Fingers twitch against Ian’s. Tightening their grip. The protective arc of his arm grounding.
There was a time when the edges were real. And a time when the edges were delusion.
