Summary
Fairy tales often begin with a backstory—a simple display of information that helps the reader understand the setting, the time, the characters, and, of course, the hero.
Any good story has some form of a hero, doesn’t it? An understanding from the very first few words of what kind of adventure you will see play out. The saving of a princess, the thwarting of an evil mage, or the escapades of a daring rogue?
No.
There is no start to this story, there is no beginning, and there may be no end. What follows is a boy, his raven hair mused like a makeshift crown around his head, breathing even as he slumbers while his eyebrows remain knit and his body tense despite the plush bed he lies upon.
Our story begins as he bolts upright, panting and panicked.

Goro steadies his nerves and speaks in a wavering authority: “Who is it I am speaking to?”
The voice chuckles. Its smile recedes before Goro can stop it.
“That’s a bit of a loaded question, lost one,” the voice sounds from the branches above Goro. He looks up to find a boy his age, a mess of curls on his head and a tail swishing by his side. That smiling stranger speaks again in the same curious tone, “I think the better question is: Who are you?”

Summary
Akira didn’t believe in the supernatural at least not the way most people did.
The ritual was a Hail Mary from a desperate student on the floor of his shitty dorm. Nothing more than a passing impulse.
An impulse that was not supposed to work.
Though at the moment, Akira feels he may need to reevaluate his beliefs as blood dries on the palm of his hand and the smell of nettle and foxglove burns the roof of his mouth.
And perhaps most importantly, the body of a horned demon dwarfs his small human frame.
Aka, Akira makes a deal with an oddly attached demon.

Summary
The Beltane Festival is celebrated every first full moon in May to mark the turning of spring into summer. Crops and cattle are blessed, flowers are strewn over every head, and harvest sacrifices are made to appease the Fae, the Aos Sí. The Maypole Dance is one of the most famous traditions. Opponents test who can dance the longest and win the blessings of the Fae. The local shepherd has participated many times, yet he has consistently failed to win.
One fateful Beltane morning, the Amadán Dorcha, the Dark Fool, demands for more than a harvest sacrifice. At the same time, the shepherd struggles to dance on a narrow ribbon between freedom and loneliness.

Goro and Akira have been dating for a little while now, post-Maruki, post-Shido, post everything that brought them together. Slipping into normal lives from the extraordinary comes with its pitfalls, but for Goro, that's been just about everything. Living is difficult when you're only practiced at surviving.
