It’s senior year and Tuesday afternoons sees Fig and Gorgug with a weekly jam sesh and Kristen with GSA meetings and Riz putting in hours at his heaven work-study. When everyone breaks at the end of the day to head off to their activities, it’s Fabian and Adaine with nowhere in particular to go.
Somewhere along the line, club meetings start to have a surprising amount of kissing.

There is another exchanged of hushed whispers, and then the fingers in her hair still as Adaine stares blankly into Ayda's chest, and then Ayda herself says, "Ah, Adaine. Are you… here?"
"I'm here," Adaine manages, and her voice comes out a hoarse, strangled rasp and yet it still is almost too loud in her own ears. "What… is the concert over?"
Ayda lets out a breath as though she's about to answer, but then she pauses. "It is, yes," she says shortly, and despite herself, Adaine can't help but release a sigh of relief.

High elves are ancient, wise, and dignified. Vulnerable is not a state they wear readily. Adaine wishes that meant they never had to.

Summary
The Abernant family has used many euphemisms for Adaine's failure over the last six months, because about the only thing worse than having a disappointment of a daughter is admitting you have a disappointment of a daughter. She is a "practical caster." She is "getting a breadth of experience." She is "taking an unconventional path." And no matter how much they look down on her for going to Aguefort Adventuring Academy and "fraternising with all sorts of ruffians and hoodlums" they still expect her to be better. They expect her not to "lower herself" to "barbarism."
Well, she's a werewolf now. And she's starting to realise that her parents' stringent condescension is far more violent than any "unkempt savage" has ever been.

Adaine has a complicated relationship to the concept of "home" before you even get to the fact that she was born in Fallinel. It doesn't help that despite being technically a Fallinish citizen, she doesn't know anyone there, certainly not anyone she could call in a crisis. She's visited a couple of times, but less often than they could with the Teleport spell at their disposal. Her parents aren't particularly close to their families - it's a cultural thing.

Dick turns eighteen with the Titans, so Bruce's legal guardianship expires while they're on bad terms and opposite sides of the continent. On a totally unrelated note, minimum drinking age in the U.S. is unreasonably high and four out of five Titans don't recommend father figures.

“Then tell us,” Raven said, pulling the thread just a little tighter than seemed strictly necessary, Dick winced. “You keep things from us all the time, and that can’t continue from now on. So start with something small now, that way the big things come easier.”
or, after the end of the apprentice arc, the Titans take the time to patch up Robin. While doing so, they notice the concerning amount of scars he has, and he gets the chance to trust his ragtag team. Some of them have better stories than others, and some stories have nothing to do with his injuries at all.
