“The Hail Mary?” The name reminded him of Eden. But Eden could only dream of this much light. This had to be heaven.
Before the robovoice said any more, footsteps thudded towards them. Simon crawled back. Why weren’t his legs working? He looked down and at least they were still there. Oh God, please be heaven and not hell.
A glowing figure threw the door open.
ELEVATED STRESS SIGNALS DETECTED. PLEASE BREATHE AT THE TONE.
His vision blurred again and he couldn’t even hear the chime this time, just strange musical notes. He could see the glowing figure dim into the shape of a man. No, no, this couldn’t be hell. After all, hell didn’t have angels.

Grace wakes to the sound of Mary and Rocky talking over each other. Blinking away the haze of sleep, Grace groans as he tries to focus on understanding what the heck is going on. Given Rocky’s voice is both closer and louder, his brain parses what he’s saying first.
“Grace, what’s that mean, question? What’s going on, question?”
Ok, not the most helpful. Sitting up, sleep properly leaves Grace’s mind as he listens to the message on the overhead.
“Forward star detection, lost. Aft star detection, lost. Starboard star detection, lost. Port star detection, lost. Ventral star detection, lost. Dorsal star detection, lost. Autopilot offline.” Mary says, repeating the message.
The exterior cameras on the Hail Mary use the positions of the stars around it to calculate it’s own position. That’s how the autopilot knows when to make course corrections.

Summary
Grace Ryland had done what she was sent to Tau Ceti to accomplish. Not only has she successfully bred enough taumeba to save Earth, but to save Erid as well. For the first time in her life she felt proud and sure of herself. She thought about the beetles that contained her video diaries, Taumeba, and other important findings that were currently hurdling back to Earth in the opposite direction she was going. As much as she wished she could once again feel the warmth of her home star, Sol, she knew she was making the right choice going back to save Rocky. Once she figured out that the Taumeba were able to phase through xenonite, there really wasn’t another option for her. She had to save her best friend.

Even though he and Rocky had accomplished their mission, sent the samples back to earth and crash-landed on Erid, well… okay, maybe he was being dramatic; they landed exactly how it was intended and exactly how Rocky had helped him land, it still felt like a crash to him.

Dr. Ryland Grace was enjoying his day off.
It was still morning, so he was sipping his cup of coffee as he sat in one of his chairs, wrapped in his colorful quilt. He held a tablet in one hand, using it to read one of the thousands of books available to him. It was quiet in his home- peaceful and cozy, just the way he liked it. He expected to be alone most of the day, since Rocky mentioned having things to do today. He wasn’t sure what, but it’s not like Grace knew every single thing Rocky got up to.
Rocky had a job, after all.
Of course, that wasn’t to say that Grace didn’t. Of course he did. He was teaching the next generation of Science Eridians(tm), and he couldn’t be more proud. They were quick learners, thanks to the Eridian’s near-photographic memory. He should probably spend some time coming up with his lesson plan for his next class.
One more chapter, then he would do his lesson planning. He was too cozy to move.
Alas, the universe rarely let him stick to his plans.

Or: Your typical Grace meets Simon and they live happily ever after in their human exhibit on Erid. Be prepared for heavy existential angst, lots of platonic cuddles, a healthy dosage of Eldritch horrors on Simon's part, and Rockys best attempt to see that his new friend and pet human lives long enough to see his life through.
Based on my typical writting expect this piece to be anywhere from 150k-300k words, but we shall see since I only have a vague idea of where it will go.
