He takes jobs that keep the lights on, jobs he thinks might make the world a little less frightening for some kid or another out there. He scratches little wounds in the belly of the underworld, then watches them scab over and reform.
And in between, he stops by the Rokuhira’s. A house sealed in amber on the mountainside, a home that isn’t his. He watches Chihiro grow up, watches him become a person. He lets the tide carry him in and back out.

Narumi winces slightly, not liking the fact that Hoshina seems to know him very well. They're a pebble in each other's shoes; Hoshina shouldn't be asking him to spar as if they were on friendly terms.

Phainon was, is, always, left speechless by it. Stunned. Mouth dry, his throat bobbed just once as his gaze raked along every inch of the beautiful mismatched pair of wings. “I want to touch it.” — that was his only thought before he reached out.

Khaslana sucks in a breath. “Wait–”
It’s too late. Curious fingers gently stroke the base of his left wing.
Every muscle in Khaslana’s body locks up tight at once. His wing immediately twitches beneath the touch, cautious as it is, a small and uncontrollable jerk of sensitivity.
He can’t help the faint, shocked noise that leaves him, barely audible.
Phainon makes a low, intrigued sound, and adds two more of his fingers. With every digit but his thumb, he starts at the sharp tip of the base and slides up and outwards.
A great shudder wracks through his wing from base to tip, a wave that follows in the wake of Phainon’s palm, and it ricochets all the way until it returns to Khaslana’s back and shivers through the rest of him. A bright, quaking warmth begins to pool in his chest.
Oh.

Khaslana’s wings are sensitive. This is a problem until it suddenly, miraculously, isn’t.
