Xie Lian had been so lost in these new touches that he’d nearly forgotten there was more to this event. He sucks in a sharp breath and glances up at Feng Xin. His eyes are warm and dark, but the thirst is undeniable. If he were to turn around, he’s certain it would be easy enough to spot in Mu Qing as well. Certainly, it’s also present in him—in the very pit of his stomach, slowly unfurling its fingers to squeeze at his lungs.
“Yes. I want it,” he whimpers.

He Xuan closes his book after sliding in the movie ticket stub he’s using as a bookmark.
“En.”
“I was going to go jogging, but then I remembered all the laundry I had.” He settles the empty basket between his legs, blue plastic chipped around the rim. It’s small. He Xuan can’t imagine he carried more than a few pieces over. But he must have already thrown them into a washer. “How are you today, He Xuan?”
“Fine.”
The effortless beauty Xie Lian holds is a match struck in a dark room. It always leaves He Xuan with a grinding ache in his chest cavity. There is no comparing his bottomless darkness with a pool of light, and somewhere in the back of his mind, He Xuan is sure it’s only a matter of time before Hua Cheng goes back to who he belongs with.
