Summary
Six months ago Shadow the Hedgehog died. Maddie hadn’t known much about this other hedgehog besides his allegiance to the Robotniks and his assault on Tom, so she was a little hesitant when Sonic insisted on having a symbolic funeral for him. Her son, almost to tears, explained Shadow’s history, his friend Maria, his change of heart, and his eventual sacrifice to save Earth. Maddie realized, much like her own sons, that Shadow was a kid who hurt a lot. But unlike her boys, he had no proper guidance, no place to call home, and no one to love him unconditionally. They held the funeral in their background and Sonic performed the eulogy, even though he only learned about the word ten minutes before. Maddie was proud of her sons’ empathy and maturity—even Knuckles refrained from punching anything unnecessarily.
Five months ago gifts began showing up on their doorstep.

There was silence for several very long seconds before Shadow responded with a bewildered “What?”

Sonic blinks. Knuckles. Knuckles?
contrary to popular belief, spending six months in space jail and being fed illusion after illusion comes with some pretty unpleasant consequences. they keep sonic up at night, but luckily for him, he isn’t alone.

Shadow smiles, a breathless laugh trickling from his maw.
“You barge into my room, give me soup, get under the blankets with me, start cuddling me and now you ask to see my paws?” Shadow hums, tilting his head down so their noses touch. Quietly, he slides his hand out from Sonic’s. Pulling away from the blue menace’s forehead, he takes off one glove, then two, dumping them both on Sonic's face. He huffs and throws them to the bedside table, ears fluttering up and face burning as Shadow replaces the hand on his cheek. He slides one ungloved paw behind Sonic's ears, using his claws to delicately scratch.OR

Tails sighs, shoulders slumping with the action. Alright, time to check on Sonic. He takes a deep breath to steady himself before...
Does he smell something cooking?
Leaving his bags where they are for now, Tails steps into the house proper, kicking off his shoes as he goes.
Rounding the corner into the kitchen, he stops when he spots a familiar figure.
"What are you doing here?"
Shadow the Hedgehog glances at him, before turning his attention back to the bubbling pot before him.
One hand on his hip, the other idly stirring whatever's in the pot, and afternoon sunlight bouncing off his black fur paints an odd picture of domestic serenity. One as unnervingly out of place as Cream on a battlefield.
"What does it look like? I'm making soup."Or: Sonic gets sick, and Shadow and Tails bond over the universalties of little sibling-hood.

Summary
Sonic could always count on Shadow’s indifference. That’s why, after a traumatic incident, he’s able to open up about his troubling feelings without fear of his world changing- a grave miscalculation!
Sonic’s emotions trigger a potentially fatal flaw in Shadow’s engineering, forcing the hybrid to confront the hedgehog side of himself that he'd always dismissed. But at least he doesn't have to confront it alone, right?
Through his growing relationship with Sonic, Shadow can also strengthen his bond with himself, giving him a chance to come to terms with everything he is and the potential to be even more. Even if it costs him his dignity.
But for Sonic, Shadow's still nothing more than an intoxicating distraction.

Shadow actually bristled at that question, narrowed eyes darting to glare at Sonic as he crossed his arms,
“Fool, you think that the ultimate lifeform would live in some pathetic cave?”
“Actually, I’ve never really considered where you lived.” Sonic admitted, deciding to ignore the ultimate lifeform comment - he had to pick his battles right now, “But in my defense no one in the village really knows anything about you. You know, besides the fact that you go on murderous rampages.”
“I’ve never killed anyone… In your village.” Shadow defended, and Sonic felt sweat dripping down the back of his neck.Or, when one of Eggman's attacks actually succeeds in wounding Sonic, he and Shadow are forced to spend some time together. To both of their chagrin.

“Right,” he says. Because he’s a storybook doppelgänger and not actually Shadow. Get it through your head, Sonic. “I’m Sonic,” he says. And maybe it’s just that he’s loopy from shock or whatever, but the next thing he says is, “Let’s be friends, alright?”

Summary
“Sonic… why are these photos of you–”
“That’s not me!” Sonic snapped, his eyes glowering down at the photos crushed underneath Shadow’s feet. “That’s not me. Not anymore.” He said, a little quieter this time. The tears fell freely, and all Shadow could do was quietly pick up each photo and place them in a neat stack on the floor. Sonic watched him, his eyes never leaving him as Shadow stayed knelt on the ground.
Shadow could feel the rising panic beginning to spread through him; desperate and frenzied and begging to release the pent up discomfort any way he knew how: anger, pain, force. He could avenge Sonic’s pain and traumas by turning his back on him now and giving into his desires to end Infinite’s life. But that would only be self-satisfying; what would Sonic want? He slowly settled down until he was sitting comfortably on the floor, while Sonic tried to quiet down his angry sobs. “Can you show me,” Shadow asked gently, “who you are?”
