“If it was such a quick, easy hunt, why are your ribs broken?”
“The ghost was friskier than I expected.” Dean gave him a lazy wink. “I can’t help it that even the dead want a piece of this.”
“You’re insufferable,” Cas said.
“Aw, come on, are you really going to glare at me all night, or are you gonna help me down the stairs?”
They both knew Cas’s grace wasn’t up to healing Dean at the moment. Not since Chuck had started fucking with Cas from a distance. And with Jack out of town with Sam and Eileen, that left Dean needing regular first aid.
Cas wrapped an arm around Dean’s lower back. His touch was warm on Dean’s hip.
Dean closed his eyes for just a moment. Just long enough to think about shifting the fingers cradling his ribs down to brush against the warmth of Cas’s skin. Instead, he opened his eyes and pushed away from the wall.
The stairs took a little longer than normal to navigate, but Dean wasn’t complaining. Not when Cas was freely touching him like this. Not when Dean felt so terrible after the fight with the spry ghost who’d tossed him around like a fucking rag doll. -

Summary
It started because of a movie role Dean landed. This was the first major studio dramatic role Dean was hired for after over a decade of playing dumb jocks and ditzy playboys. His agent, who was also his younger brother, suggested Dean do some one-on-one research for this role.
That’s what brought him to Boston, Massachusetts to the office of Professor Castiel Krushnic. The professor was, according to Sam’s research, the most well established expert on religious studies in the US. If anyone would be able to help Dean, a lifelong agnostic, sink his teeth into the role of a seminary student questioning his faith after a family tragedy, it would be the professor.
There was only one problem.
Cas was gorgeous, insanely smart, and had the driest humor of anyone Dean had ever met. The combination left Dean stumbling over his words like all of the airhead pretty boys he’d played in movies.

Summary
This series began with a gif in June 2013. One of Jeremy Renner from The Hurt Locker that inspired me to write Marking Their Territory. From there it grew to me trying to visualize things I'd seen mentioned in The Interrogation Room and it grew into it's own little Alternative Universe that explored my own crazy version of Nickels and their relationship.
All but Even If You're Gone was written before Shock & Awe came out so they don't really act like canon here and I didn't mean for them to.- Words:
