Summary
Marina thinks that she was never meant to be a hero- she was a simple circus performer before the Nautiloid and the tadpoles. Fate, or maybe the gods, have different plans as she finds herself the leader of a band of sort-of heroes just trying to make to Baldur's Gate and survive. If they can somehow save the world, all the better. Her developing feelings for Astarion seem destined to lead to nothing but pain.
Astarion was never the sort to care for anyone at all; after all, no one had ever cared for him. He is not going to let the cheerful and incompetent leader of their party get into his head or his heart. This was how weak people get killed- and he had come too far to let death get him now.
Pain and death are around every corner, but what is life without death? And what is love without pain?

This story I mostly wrote just for me, but thought I would share just in case someone else might also enjoy it. It's based on my favorite play though.
