“Come in,” Ignis says, after a half-second’s doubt. He does not try for anyone’s voice but his own.
“Wisdom check,” Gladio says.
Ignis rolls his d20 and adds his proficiency to it. “Fifteen.”
“The two strangers before you are clearly experienced adventurers, or maybe mercenaries, based on the weapons they carry and the wear and tear on their armor and other gear. They’re successful at it, too, because they seem well-fed, in good health, and have all of their limbs. The woman is a little taller than the man, though they seem of age and are similar enough in coloring and facial structure that you wouldn’t at all be surprised if they were related.”
Ignis hums at that information, considers the backstory he crafted with Gladio, and asks simply, “Has Mother hired you to kill me?”

It’s a Sunday afternoon and Akechi Goro is in his shitty apartment, sprawled on his couch, when he makes a horrible discovery.
A re-run of Featherman is playing on his thrifted TV. Mid ad-break, he turns on his phone and sees a very familiar app, sitting there on the home page innocently as though last time it had appeared out of nowhere it hadn’t ruined Goro’s life. He had been sipping on disgusting instant coffee, which he spills all over his pants from the shock.
Not because he’s clumsy, obviously.
His right eye twitches. He opens the app, and reads the words: Amamiya Ren, Tokyo, Shrine.

“Ren,” he mimics, eyes flashing, “it really does.”

Summary
Inumaki Toge is the first in four generations to be a Cursed Speech user. He’s the first in seven to have actually been born with the Snake Eyes and Fangs sigil. They had thought it eradicated. The Inumaki clan has worked hard, labored and toiled over this for five hundred years. Finally, they had thought the curse broken, four solid generations of not a single user, seven without the cursed mutation at birth. And here Toge came messing that all up.
Inumaki Toge is the first in four generations to be a Cursed Speech user. He is not the last.
