Hello! DON’T READ THIS BIT OF THE SUMMARY IF YOU WANT TO GO IN COMPLETELY BLIND.
This story is a way for me to explore how the Hokkaido incident would've effected Ushio’s self worth, if Sakuma didn’t do anything to resolve it. As a trans woman, I could tell instantly that It wouldn’t be good. And That lead me into the other big part of this fic. The chaser aspect. I wanted to explore why trans women often settle for chasers in the first place. I won’t spoil it here, but I tried my best to make it as realistic as possible, doing my best to give the chaser a proper character and not just being an obstacle/antagonist. There’s also of course the jealousy aspect, but that’s because I love to see Sakuma pining for Ushio. You fumbled a queen, now sheathe. But it also serves a purpose to the story. I’ve put a lot of effort into writing this, and I hope you all will enjoy it.
P.S Sakuma and Ushio will end up together, don’t worry about that.

Hello, I love this novel. I wish there was atleast a few more dozen fics on ao3 for this hidden gem. But oh well, be the change you want to see in the world!
I had mixed feelings with the ending of volume 5, while yeah its not required for Mei to resolve everything inside the novel itself. they can tackle their sex life in their own time. But the open ended nature of it even in the epilogue, gave me a bad aftertaste. Like nooo girl don't settle for someone, you need to fulfill your needs too. I refuse to believe they didn't figure things out, and this is my shot at how that could look. Of course not as indepth as some other fics here (shoutout to noah, thank you for writing that, huge inspo for me). But i wanted to write something more explicit, so here you go. Have fun reading!

Ushio and Sakuma's adventure through Hokkaido has ended, and the trial run of their relationship is now over. Will their relationship be able to survive the unique pressures that each of them face in the wake of Sakuma's compromise? Join Sakuma and Ushio as they navigate through the new struggles of their relationship and strive towards their ideal futures.
I wrote this because I wanted to cover the 3rd year between the ending of book 5 and the epilogue, to show how Sakuma and Ushio's relationship develops, and show a lot more of Ushio's struggle to develop her new identity. This fanfic will also include the main characters thinking about their futures as individuals, and what they want from life to feel fulfilled.

She can’t feel the heat of Yukari’s shoulder as it presses into her own, not with the bulky layers of the coat, but the weight is there.
“What are you doing out here without your coat? Are you crazy?” She laughs near the end, but it’s soft, and has none of the usual spunk she’s come to expect from her best friend.
