Post finale fic that doesn't ignore the grief of the survivors, but doesn't wallow in it. The good work goes on and Leon finds his place in a post-Samaritan Team Machine. This fic left me feeling good without undoing the terrific, yet heartbreaking finale season of POI.

It all came to a head on the day Logan was passing by Remy's room just as he was coming out. The kid reeked of sweat, of Marie and of fulfilled desires. Logan halted, the mingled scents hitting him in the deepest instinctive reptile centers of his brain with all the subtlety of a battleaxe.

So I know the show really couldn't go here, but it still fascinating to consider. Also, this reads like a perfect prequel to 'Just Like Your Mother', the Deucalion/Derek dubious consent vignette. Definitely edging into the Dead Dove Do Not East territory.

Summary
He hadn’t come here with a contract. He’d come here to get the faces out of his head: the bloodless dead sprawled in heaps through the streets of Beauclair, the morning after the rampage Detlaff had unleashed; the blank eyes of the boy in the orphanage tilting his head to let Orianna drink from his throat, with the lullaby she’d been singing him still hanging in the air.
Wasn’t working that well so far.

Geralt held up the report. “Just over the border in Vicovaro, last night. The ones in the city will know by tonight, if they don’t already.”
Emhyr nodded and turned to the envoys. “This is fortuitous timing, then. Lord Neath, Lord Estain, you have met Master Geralt. For the last year, he has been overseeing a covert mobilization under my direct authority.” They both gawked at him. “It will shortly no longer be covert. You will go with him to the eastern wing and be briefed at once, and then immediately go to the mages’ circle and depart the city by portal. I wish your respective dukes to be fully informed and their forces on high alert by the end of the day. It is possible that attacks may be launched anywhere across the Empire almost at once. You may go.”
They followed Geralt to the eastern wing with vaguely indignant expressions. “And I actually believed you were his lover,” Lord Neath said to Geralt sourly. “Trust the emperor to make everyone think he’s finally in his dotage as a blind. And this mad determination to slaughter every last corpse-eater of the world also, I suppose? Of course. So what in Lebioda’s name is really going on?”
In which Geralt swears an oath the an emperor, but really to humanity. Also, he really is Emhyr's lover.

Story is COMPLETE.
You could pay a psychiatrist to listen to you talk, to help you understand yourself and the situations and people around you, to ask the questions that will make you think more clearly, being quietly supportive while challenging your beliefs.
Or you could take a road trip with your sister Cora and get all of it for free.

Bookmarker's Notes
There was finesse in relating to dogs: They weren’t wolves, but, then again, neither were werewolves. Both Cora and Derek went down to a crouch as Claire walked to the library door to open it. Two massive Great Danes rushed out, their nails clicking on the white and black-checkered tiles of the entryway.
They stopped in their tracks, sliding a little, when Derek and Cora’s scent hit them. The bigger of the two dogs, a black male, approached Derek, who was looking down. The dog whined a little and licked Derek’s mouth, expressing that he appreciated but was not fooled by Derek’s submissive stance, and had no intention of picking a fight. Derek stood back up. The dog got on his rear legs and placed his paws on Derek’s shoulders. They were the same height. Derek scratched the dog behind the ears, and the dog wagged his tail.
The female, slightly smaller, walked playfully to Cora, pushing her with her chest so that Cora had to hug her or fall over. Cora laughed at the demonstrative dog and rubbed her neck.
“Well, my dogs sure love you. They are usually a bit more standoffish, especially Jordan here,” Claire said, petting the male who had fallen back on all four and was standing by her side. She smiled at her affectionate female dog. “Makie is always a bit of a clown, though…”
“They are beautiful,” said Derek.
“And I can jog anywhere at anytime with them without anyone ever bothering me,” said Claire, smiling. “Let’s have that coffee, shall we?”
The one where Laura lied and Derek and Cora visit their older brother's girlfriend, who never knew he'd died in the fire, only that he never came back to her. Or, Cora reveals that the past Derek thought he knew, and the Laura he'd believed in, were very different.

Bookmarker's Notes
Sometimes he just can't sleep. On nights like that he turns wolf and sleeps under the porch, wrapped up in a blanket. Usually his cousins find him in the morning and play-pounce on him until he gets up.
He stops showering some time in June. He doesn't smell bad, not really; he just smells feral.
This isn't particularly canonical, yet it's my headcanon of Derek and Laura from the fire to the beginning of the series. It balances and explains the guy who could live in the burned out wreck of his family home and also keep himself shaved and clean and capable of (at least) surface interaction with humans. Also, 'I'm not a boy, I'm a wolf' is the perfect summation of how Derek thinks in contrast to Scott and the bitten wolves.

The one where Laura abandons Derek, he lives as a wolf for a year or so then hitch hikes to New York to find her. Bad things happen to hitch hikers. This is one that explores some of the dark possibilities of what happened to the two of them in the six years after the fire.

In every fandom I've read, there's been one writer who elevates their fanfic and gives the characters depth, competency, and plots. (Often they do it in more than one fandom.) I like this one a lot, but anything by Tess_DiCorsi in NCISLA fandom is worth reading.

Don Eppes was never a favorite character of mine, but this fusion crossover works nicely. Presses my 'doesn't know deeply attractive bad guy(girl) is really a undercover' button, which is related to my outsider pov button, which is grazed here too. Since Tony standing up to Gibbs and leaving that toxic workplace was always a fantasy, everything is good. Unless you don't like slash, in which case why are you reading my bookmarks?

Summary
Gibbs has left for Mexico, and Tony’s gut is telling him he’s in trouble. Abby is too distracted by her grief for Gibbs to back Tony up, so he decides to go to the most Abbish person he knows for help: Penelope Garcia. Abby introduced them after the two women met at a forensics seminar for federal agents. So Tony asks Garcia if she will do a little digging, but bringing Garcia in means bringing in other members of the BAU. After all, if Garcia thinks a friend is in trouble, she’ll always turn to her Derek, trusting him to do the right thing. Tony just isn't sure that having Derek Morgan on his side is going to help when he has a director making unreasonable requests, a team doing the minimum required for their job and an overwrought Abby to deal with.

Summary
Neighbor Cat was sitting at their doorstep, thoughtfully washing his snowy paw. He lifted his head when he saw Steve, and sniffed the air before he came up to Steve and began to twine affectionately around his ankles, purring and meowing all at once, interspersed with with hopeful chirrups. Steve supposed Sam wouldn't miss a little of the chicken. He sat down on the stoop and Neighbor Cat rubbed his head hopefully against Steve's knee.
When he opened up the foil package, Neighbor Cat darted close, and in defiance of his usual perfect manners, snatched up the chicken and bolted for the fence, scaling it in two bounds, and disappeared into the gully like a shot.
"What the hell?" said Steve, staring after him.

NEIGHBOR CAT AND ASTRID THE GERMAN SHEPHERD
I can never remember the name of this story and always have to resort to bizarre search strings to find it again and so, bookmark! I almost named my dog Astrid because of this too, but then imagined myself yelling ASSS-triiiiid at 4 in the morning and, nope. She's not aware she can jump most fences, but would definitely join Dumb Tomcat in saving pretty much anything. I have to pet her every time I read this, it makes me all warm and gooey inside.
