Ghost felt the phantom feeling of Johnny’s hand around his neck, fingers digging into the skin in the nape of his neck, brushing against the buzzed blond hair. Could feel the heavy gaze of his blue eyes on him, flickering over his face like he was mentally mapping it as if he was never gonna see it again, “I ask now,” he had whispered in the tense moment between them.
“Why?” /Why Johnny? Why did you ask me then? Why, why, why…/
“Just a precaution,” /bullshit/, Johnny smiled, though it didn’t reach his eyes, didn’t even crinkle them properly like it always did. “Will you look for me?”
“Always.”
Or
Johnny died, but a year after on the anniversary of his death, Ghost finds something that maybe will change that. Following blindly a trail laid out by Soap himself to find him.

Summary
Everyone wanted to know what Ghost looked like under that mask of his, the one that made him adjacent to death himself. The furthest anyone had ever seen was his eyes, which were always surrounded by eye black. Even those were enough to scare plenty away.
Most people figured that he’d have to look like a war-torn badass under that mask, covered in scars from all sorts of cool stories. No, he couldn’t possibly be insecure, he was the Ghost, he probably just liked the anonymity. He definitely had to be hiding something under there, maybe he was covering up some sort of shockingly gorgeous and masculine face.
Soap, who’d grown from a parasite attached to Ghost’s back to the one closest to him, thought otherwise. He was willing to bet, and had literally betted, on Ghost being a completely average motherfucker. Nothing scary and cool, nothing that needed to be kept secret. In his opinion, the smug bastard probably liked to keep everyone guessing.
Not that that made him any less curious.

For a moment, Soap let the silence sink in. Let himself shift his gaze slightly to the side and rest on Ghost’s thick thigh, fat with the softness of his relaxed muscle, lightly dusted with fine blond hairs. He wanted to sweep the tips of his fingers delicately over those hairs, see if they were as downy as they looked. Wanted to see the way Ghost’s muscles would twitch at the sensation, wanted to see if he’d shy away or press into the touch. Wanted to know if he’d like it.
Would probably end up with a knife in his gut, but at this point, Soap thought it was probably worth it. For one touch, it might be worth it.
It's 3:30 in the morning, and Soap and Ghost can't sleep. How will they pass the time.

Simon Riley is an unbreakable man to most people, made of hard and cold stone. But most people don’t look closely enough to see the deep cracks in that stone that have been cemented back together, or the rubble inside.
Johnny, though, slid between his ribs like a dagger, clawed his way into his heart through those cracks and lodged himself in its hairline fractures. He took the shattered pieces left of Simon, and instead of turning away like he should, he held on like it was the most beautiful thing he’d ever seen.
And now Simon’s cracked open his own ribs, baring himself to Johnny in his entirety, exposing his scarred but still beating heart for the taking.

Or: Ghost loves Soap but is bad at feelings and gets stuck in a time loop.
Just to make very clear, both main characters die repeatedly but *temporarily* due to the nature of the time loops. Please please check the tags and also know there is a happy ending filled with comfort and fluff and smut!

He is thirty-three, and he can’t remember the last time he was given a hug. In some ways, that feels like dying too.
“Okay.” Ghost says, throat still raw. He cannot forget the bodies that haunt his childhood home like vengeful ghosts. Sometimes, he wonders if he will go back there and find Soap’s body there as well.
“Okay,” Soap says.
He leaves without saying another word, and Ghost cannot help the arms he throws around himself; the closest thing he has to a hug.
