If she came to him in a state of panic then it would mean showing her hand, if she inspected the laboratory while distracted it could lead to missing a vital detail. She had to be composed. She wouldn’t be able to compose herself properly until she calmed down, which would mean a release of tension was needed.
Harrow drags Gideon back to their room after the Avulsion trial, finding herself at the whims of her errant and necromantic body. She's familiar with her particular deficiencies and tendencies, enough that she knows exactly how to calm herself down: Gideon's sweat-soaked cloak helps.
