She remembered how easily he offered to help get her mom from Oklahoma not even a year ago. How he approached the situation without judgement. How easily he entered into that dynamic, not hesitating to follow Abby’s lead. She thought he hid his discomfort quite well, but of course he didn’t. He’s an open book, he always has been. He’d done that before.
“Abby,” Carter whispered, gesturing towards the woman, “you remember my mother.”

Peter’s annoyance comes back with full force. He knows logically that he’s just tired, and that Carter isn’t doing anything wrong, but he’s just being so loud!
If he had let the doctor part of his brain come to the forefront at this point, he would have caught it. Carter’s breathing was always accompanied by a lot of noise, it had been like that since he started at County. But in the silence of the room the whistle that was present in it today was very apparent. If he had thought about it at all, Peter could have told him to go take a seat and take a hit of the inhaler that he’s sure must be in his pocket. But he doesn’t.

Carter has severe asthma and has an attack during a particularly difficult shift while he's still a med student. Dr. Benton is NOT worried about him at all, thank you very much.

Christ. All he wanted to do tonight was curl up with Jackie on the couch but somehow he was instead looking down the barrel of a night at Rozanov’s.
Though… an evening of just him and Shane did sound really nice. Like how it used to be, back when Lily was just a mysterious girl in Shane’s phone, so far removed from anything real and tangible.
“You sure he wouldn’t mind?” Hayden asked. Not that he really cared if Rozanov minded, but it was the polite thing to inquire.
Besides, now Hayden was kind of curious to see the hole in which Rozanov inhabited. Maybe there’d be primitive cave drawings on the walls.
