A year and a half after their triumph over the Absolute in Baldur's Gate, Kellis and Rhydian, with their respective partners, reunite with old friends and look forward to a night of merrymaking at a grand ball thrown in their honor. However, with the daunting reappearance of old enemies as well, whether such a night will end on a high note remains to be seen.

After he says this, it almost seems as if his attention is drawn toward Halsin—or the slight figure standing behind the druid. Startled, Kellis hides again, her heart thumping in her chest. He can’t possibly have seen her, recognized her, not after all this time.

When she returns to the Lower City, Kellis is confronted with the ghosts of her past at Sorcerous Sundries. Seeing her abuser again proves to be a burden much too heavy for her to carry, but she soon finds that she needn't carry it alone.

"Kellis takes Halsin’s hand and leads him toward the nearby stream, beside which lies a large fallen oak trunk. They sit next to each other on the grass and lean against this generous trunk, hoping it would be big enough to obscure them from prying eyes; the night is young, and these two are in blissful spirits."
After a full day of tending to the orphanage, Halsin and Kellis settle down for the evening and enjoy themselves by the river.
