Chat Noir gave the tiniest shake of their head and by now they were basically clinging to her as she held them. "I only told everyone because I thought it would stop the rumours," they whispered, staring at the ground as if they were rewatching the scene.

(An act of treason against the Supreme doesn't leave you with a lot of places to go. Giving up on your goals is a lot easier when the consequences of your actions haven't caught up to you yet.)

The air enters its lungs through every crevice, every fissure, every invisible crack in its perfect facade and at night it holds it in and it holds and holds and it suffocates.
Everything stills when the lights go out and the heartbeats fade, replaced by the buzzing of butterflies underneath skin, waiting to break free. People do not stay until sundown, they flee as if chased out by unseen ghosts.
At times, Adrien doesn't understand why he's the only one who sees them.
