“Does it bother you,” Yuuri asks, eyes downcast, “that I’ll never be able to return your flowers?” He looks so sad, shoulders hunched to make himself seem as small as possible, unable to meet his gaze.
Viktor pauses. Perhaps if he had been anyone else—been in love with anyone else—it would be different. But Viktor still vividly remembers the taste of marigolds on his lips, the feeling of thorny vines clawing up his throat until he was doubled over and hacking blood. He imagines what Yuuri must have felt, only fourteen-years-old but drowning in flowers, in love with someone who didn’t even knew he existed. He must have been so frightened, Viktor thinks.
“It doesn’t.”

Summary
Viktor Nikiforov was given three tasks to accomplish before he was allowed to take over Nikiforov Industries, one of the largest tech companies in the world. The first of which required him to graduate from an Ivy League university, the second was to shadow his father and learn the business, and the third was to get married to a woman.
Four years after accomplishing all of that Viktor feels trapped in a loveless marriage to someone he can hardly stand to be in the same room as, and he's left with the harsh realization that money really can't buy you happiness. He's cracking under the pressure and loneliness and is more than just metaphorically on the ledge.
So in one final last-ditch attempt to gain some control and find some happiness he finds himself on a vacation in New York City, where an exotic dancer captures his eye, and soon his monochromatic world is dripping with hues of gold.
((Aka: Viktor is a rich businessman who's struggling with depression, feeling trapped in a life he has no control over. Summary
Flowers were one of mother nature's most beautiful creations, their interwoven design of delicate petals were breathtaking even to the most cold-hearted of people. It was for this reason it had always made sense that when you first met your soulbond you would cough up something so beautiful.
There was symbolism to each type of flower, if your relationship was destined to come easily with little complications you might get forget-me-nots with their small soft petals. But Yuuri had heard horror stories of people who spent long minutes hacking up a storm because they ended up with peonies or tulips.
As a child he had always hoped that if the day ever came he'd be lucky enough that his flora would be small and gentle.
But as an adult, he couldn't exactly say he was surprised when thorns tore at the back of his throat as a metallic taste filled his mouth only moments before he was coughing up blood-stained roses.
This love would be volatile.

For the past two months, the prettiest and most talented man in their college picks Yuuri up from his evening economics lecture, shares a meal with him at the student lounge, and then fucks Yuuri platonically and quite satisfyingly in his off-campus apartment, often doggystyle on the couch.
