UPDATE (9/30/2023): Hello!! I am so sorry for vanishing into the ether for two years and leaving you all without a conclusion to this story! Life got into the way BIG TIME. However, I am in a spot now where I am able to write again and I WILL be coming back to this fic and finishing it!!
Update (10/27/21): This work is currently on hold, but I will return to it. I had a sudden death in the family and it is also the beginning of the holiday season at my place of work, so I have had little to no down time to continue working on this. I appreciate your patience and hope to have something for you soon.
There's no Shepard without Vakarian. This fic holds a lot of internal thoughts of femShep and Garrus from a recent playthrough of ME Legendary, following the basics of the main story quest with some added character development behind the scenes. There's physical and emotional trauma and bonding, and some creative liberties have been taken with the canon to expand both Shepard and Garrus not only as characters, but also as people.
Paragon Shepard, infiltrator/spacer/sole survivor background.

Summary
Gustave, since he lost half his arm, his body had felt foreign to him, like he was off balance all the time (even literally sometimes). He had read stories of people using tattoos as a way to reclaim their autonomy, to reclaim themselves.
That was what he was hoping this would do for him.
And Verso, his Tattoo Artist, accidentally puts a little of his painter magic into Gustave's tattoo.

Summary
Prince Verso of Lumière knows precious little about the city beyond the dome. All he knows is that he wants to be there.
Each passing day, he grows tired of the limitations that come with his royal blood.
"Don't go out at night, the city has fangs."
"You must put forth a certain appearance."
"That's not the way a prince should behave."Little does he realize, the very limitations he speaks of have been keeping him safe from harm for his entire life.
Because "you can't have royal blood if you don't have blood at all."

Summary
Gustave dies at Renoir's hand on the Stone Wave Cliffs. Then Gustave opens his eyes to the sound of a cane striking stone at the edge of the Continent. He dies again, he opens his eyes again. Again, again, and again, until he gets it right.
A slow-burn Verstave time loop from Gustave's perspective. The content warning is for time loop-typical death and violence.
Updates on Tuesdays.

Summary
He plunges his sword into the ground — a familiar, practiced motion. The world pauses for a moment, and he sees the purple threads of blighted chroma ensnaring Gustave; pulls, yanking them towards himself. The pulsing chroma freezes for a second, tightening around the engineer. Then, like a pouncing predator, jumps at Verso.
The world starts moving again. A wave of nausea and fatigue almost knocks Verso to the ground, and it’s a miracle that he manages to dodge the next attack.
Gustave is staring at him, trying to process what just happened.
“Run,” Verso croaks.
Or: 5 times Verso carried Gustave’s burden and the 1 time Gustave carried his.
