‘I’m fine’, Michael wanted to say. Even after all this time, after all the progress they’d made, opening up was still an excruciating ordeal. It was hard to unlearn decades of what had once been survival instinct, after all.
But this was Alexis, the one person foolish enough to love him. Even after having seen the darkest, filthiest parts of Michael’s soul, Alexis’ steadfast devotion hadn’t wavered even a goddamn centimeter. This was nothing, in comparison.
And besides, Michael’s therapist was always going on and on and on about how talking about his stupid fucking feelings with someone he trusted was far better than bottling them up and leaving them to fester.
“…I was just thinking.” Michael swallowed down his nerves, forcing himself to make eye contact. Let’s just get this shit over with. “About you. Never becoming a father. Because of me.”

This fic is conceived as a draft for a gothic novel that will later be rewritten into my own original setting and prepared for print.
It’s inspired by the neo-gothic vibes of Lovecraft and Lukyanenko, and in terms of narration sometimes echoes Milton, Poe, Clark Ashton Smith, Anne Rice, and Clive Barker: pseudo-archaic language, body horror, psychological abuse, and religious motifs woven into a single story of dependence and cult.
This is not the final version of the translation: I’m still polishing the style, rhythm, and wording, and I continue to revise even the chapters that are already published.Series
