‘I’m fine’, Michael wanted to say. Even after all this time, after all the progress they’d made, opening up was still an excruciating ordeal. It was hard to unlearn decades of what had once been survival instinct, after all.
But this was Alexis, the one person foolish enough to love him. Even after having seen the darkest, filthiest parts of Michael’s soul, Alexis’ steadfast devotion hadn’t wavered even a goddamn centimeter. This was nothing, in comparison.
And besides, Michael’s therapist was always going on and on and on about how talking about his stupid fucking feelings with someone he trusted was far better than bottling them up and leaving them to fester.
“…I was just thinking.” Michael swallowed down his nerves, forcing himself to make eye contact. Let’s just get this shit over with. “About you. Never becoming a father. Because of me.”

This fic is conceived as a draft for a gothic novel that will later be rewritten into my own original setting and prepared for print.
It’s inspired by the neo-gothic vibes of Lovecraft and Lukyanenko, and in terms of narration sometimes echoes Milton, Poe, Clark Ashton Smith, Anne Rice, and Clive Barker: pseudo-archaic language, body horror, psychological abuse, and religious motifs woven into a single story of dependence and cult.
This is not the final version of the translation: I’m still polishing the style, rhythm, and wording, and I continue to revise even the chapters that are already published.Series

This is bad simply because Mydei believes he has won the argument, despite the fact that Phainon doesn't understand him.

He’d never pressed about sexual stuff, and you weren’t sure just how much he knew about it, so you never brought it up. It was just too embarrassing and you were too shy. He wasn’t shy about touching you anymore, so you weren’t desperately needing it, but times like these, when you watched his jaw unhinge slightly, tongue sliding out to get the last piece of rice from his plate, you felt a flash of heat go through you.

But even from the row at the very back of the room, Alhaitham can see the blush that still blooms on the top of Kaveh’s cheekbones and he knows it has nothing to do with nerves. Kaveh has spent the first half of the lecture standing next to the instructor’s desk at the front of the room while Mehrak projects various diagrams for the audience and Alhaiham can’t help but assume why; he’s seen enough of these lectures to know that Kaveh is usually one to pace across the platform as he speaks.
And yet despite the evidence supporting his conclusion that Kaveh is still agonizingly aroused, Alhaitham can’t do anything about it.
While lecturing with Alhaitham in the audience, Kaveh finds himself under a new sort of pressure. (Alhaitham suffers too.)

"Perhaps things would have been different had I fallen into your bed instead of his." Jing Yuan's chest ached as those red eyes slid down to watch as Blade's thumb brushed his bottom lip. "There's no room for such sentimentality between us, Jing Yuan. Not when the call of the Mara drowns out everything."
"Ying—"
Blade's eyes snapped wide, his hand jerking up to curl tightly around Jing Yuan's throat, silencing him. "Don't." Blade breathed, his voice rough with barely restrained anger. "He's not here. Only the monster that now dwells within his skin."
Despite his better judgement Jing Yuan couldn't bring himself to simply relinquish the past and let it fade. Thus he found himself following the tracks of the echo of a man he'd always loved, a path that would bring them both nothing but pain.
