“Why don’t you just move out?” he had said, one day when Jane had been hanging out in his kitchen, picking off a piece of french toast from her plate, despite having his own, but she let it slide since he had just uttered something so genius she can’t believe she hadn’t thought of it yet. And also because the plate technically belonged to him, given it was from his cupboards. “You could stay with me while you look for your own apartment. I’ll even help.”
“I could kiss you,” she replied, starry eyed. She really could, if he’d said yes, because he was so, so smart, and also because he looked really kissable. “I’m serious.”
Dustin had only arched a brow in response, unmoved. She probably imagined the tint of his cheeks.
or, in order to escape the recently developed couple's PDA, El temporarily moves in with Dustin. This will not set off a chain of events leading to a permanent moving in at all.

Mike strode toward him with an easy confidence that made Will’s pulse skip. He was not in his uniform today, choosing to don a simple white shirt, sleeves rolled to his elbows. His dark curls were tied back into a short ponytail at the nape of his neck, a few rebellious strands framing his face.
He looked devastatingly handsome. Open.
And in his hand was a bouquet.
Wildflowers, mostly. Vibrant yellows and soft blues, tied together clumsily with twine that was suspiciously uneven, he notes, endeared.
Will’s lips part in surprise.
“For you,” Mike said, slightly breathless, as though he had hurried. He offered them with a grin that felt almost shy. “Wisdom.”

You’re so pretty, Mike thinks, before Will is suddenly leaning forward and pressing a soft kiss on his lips— right over his cut.
It’s short in reality, barely even three seconds, but it’s like an eternity to Mike. Will’s lips are soft, perfectly fitting against his, like they were made to come together like that.
He knew Will was his soulmate! Take that, dad!

He’d been terrified, then, when he heard it. Not afraid that Will loved him, no. Afraid that Will loved him, told him, and would’ve died before Mike could tell him that he loved him before he ever knew what loving someone the way he did Will meant.
Because he’d stopped shaking, right after those words spilled out of his lips in a desperate gasp. His sniffles had died, breath stuttering until he was quiet. Will had always been a quiet boy, but Mike had always heard him, even before he started truly speaking when they were children. He couldn’t hear him, then.
He couldn’t hear him, and he had fallen apart.

But best friend privileges meant Will was all too trusting of Mike, never suspected him, always wanted to see the best in him.
And if Mike was a better person, this would not be a problem, it would never backfire on the sweet naive young man that was William Byers.
But Mike was not a particularly good person, he’s rude, snappy, and at most times inconsiderate. He made peace with that fact a long time ago.

Summary
He should have prepared for this. They all should have: him, his mom, Jonathan, and El. His friends, his pack.
It wasn’t a secret what he was, they’d known even when he wasn’t anywhere near presentation age. It was obvious. He was a disgrace long before it was official. Will Byers was an omega. A male one. It was an unspoken confirmation of what his father accused him to be, of what his hometown whispered about and what the new one suspected upon seeing him. It was testimony of every name he’d been called, a validation to the sneers of his middle school classmates and the rest of smalltown Hawkins, Indiana.
And that was just the start of the problem.
