The whiteboard is the catalyst, but it really isn’t. It tips over a series of dominoes that lead to Jay’s bedroom, get under his feet, and walk him out the door. But, in the morning after, when the whiteboard has that big, capital D ‘Don’t’ on it, and Matt won’t be honest about having written it, despite it clearly being his handwriting, the whiteboard isn’t the catalyst, because Matt gets up on the couch and erases it, and it’s almost like it wasn’t there to begin with.

calmtonight bookmarking an s&m fic fork found in kitchen. that said, the dynamic here is used to such great effect in comfortably filling out characters so sparse in the source material. a masterful and intuitive use of non-linearity given the nature of the film, and their seemingly equal bitterness toward and enduring need for each other is made delightfully tangible. good fun all round.

really interesting reworking with a clear and consistently maintained internal logic. the black comedic tone throughout accurately reflects L in a way i feel a lot of works attempting to capture his mindset miss & injects the piece with a needed levity that never feels parodic.
