“Well… we do need to care a little. Some viruses cause more severe infections than others. Influenza, for example, is pretty inconvenient for most people. It can cause nausea, fever, nose leaking, aches, coughing, and more. It can even be deadly for people with weak immune systems, like children or the very old. We definitely take it seriously when someone vulnerable gets infected. Influenza is one of the diseases we vaccinate for. Who remembers what vaccination is?”
The entire class raised their claws. Grace facepalmed.
“Right, duh. Forget I asked.”
♪Cannot forget.♪ Someone chimed, eliciting several giggling thrills.
OR
Ryland Grace has an annoyingly short lifespan by Eridian standards. Rocky fix. Good thing the human came with a laptop full of all human knowledge.

The silence that answered his one verse of song was horrible and grating. Incomplete. Empty. A sick, horrible fear built up inside him.

"Iz huhg," Grace sniffled out, sucking back in moisture from his noze, too. There was moisture and water and everything all over the place. "Huhg meens grayt, grayt, grayt affekshun."
"Oh," he said tentatively. Another hewmin thing! He shuffled closest to the wall Grace was huhging and leaned in. "Oh. Am I doing correctly, hmm?"
"Yis," Grace sighed out, calming down. He still leaked, though.
Oh, well. Leaky hewmins were his favorite, after all.

The Hail Mary has survived far longer than she was ever intended to, Rocky is practically vibrating with excitement about returning home, and Grace has more or less managed to stave off the worst effects of malnutrition. Things seem to be going well.
Until he wakes up one morning with a fever and a harsh cough and is granted a stark reminder of just how fragile his human body truly is.
