Sure, there's the abuse, the borderline torture, the yelling, the fighting, and the fucking – sometimes all of them at once – but mostly, it's just Val being Val.
Then again, maybe anyone can get accustomed to anything. Angel suffers, he cries, he screams and self-destructs, and it's all just another Tuesday. His hurt is practically a marketable skill, top of his resume. The pain is mostly dulled at this point, and all Angel feels is bored to tears.

It was tactics. Honestly, it was. There was only so many times Lance could stand to be flipped and pinned to the floor, or the wall, or find himself panting and generally staring up at the smug look on Keith’s face before drastic action was called for.
So Lance kissed him.
aka Lance finds out that kissing Keith is a great tactic for distraction, and it inevitably turns into a competition. Lance thinks it’s the natural next step in their rivalry, and he refuses to be bested.
The only thing is, Keith never considered it a competition.

Wasn’t that the funny thing? No one knew. Any one of these people Lance fell for impulsively and took to bed could be the one. The one that he grew attached to and chose to never let go of, the one that got to hold his heart as closely as his body… the one that stole the spotlight in his life and shoved Keith so far off stage that he blended right into the shadows.
Lance wanted it so very badly, had tried to force it so many times, but it was bound to happen sooner or later. Someone was going to fill that soulmate-sized hole in Lance’s chest and here Keith was showing off different shapes.

Keith's in love with Lance, and it's for that very reason that he finds himself in this situation. Helping Lance through a sexuality crisis, setting him up with other people, and eventually... volunteering to become friends with benefits.

Keith let out a small yelp. The realtor and Shiro turned to look at him. “I just tripped. I'm fine, sorry.”
Lance looked down from the ceiling before dropping down into the room. “Sorry about that. Didn’t mean to scare you. From the way you look, you’d think you saw a ghost.”
The laugh Keith suppressed came out as more of a strangled yelping noise. Once again Shiro and the realtor turned to look at him. He held up his hands at them, sheepishly. “Sorry, again.”

A few weeks ago, one of the hottest guys I’ve ever seen walked into my life, and then I punched him in the face. I keep bending over backwards trying to impress him, but I just keep fucking things up. It doesn’t help, though, that he’s aloof and mysterious and acts like a dick, but I know there’s more to him than that, and for some god-forsaken reason, I’m dying to figure it out,”

Or,Keith has never heard of Voltron or any of its band members. That is, until he’s hired to work with them and catches the eye of Lance, the lead singer/guitarist.
Their relationship is complicated and filled with obstacles, and they both try to figure out the best way to navigate it.
