Robert Robertson III spent seven years believing the Mecha Man suit was the only extraordinary thing about him-the tech, the mission, the legacy, the perfect hero, the perfect soldier, the perfect legacy bearer for a family that never lived past forty. Summary
When grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura gets tangled in a battle between Autobots and Decepticons, he never expects to become part-Cybertronian, soul-bound to the AllSpark, and the literal embodiment of a Mage. He especially doesn't expect Magnus Carlsen to show up early to a chess tournament, get dragged into a robot war, and turn out to be his fated Knight.
Now they have to save the world, survive Decepticons, play their final match, and maybe figure out their feelings—all while being very unsubtly shipped by a team of giant alien robots.

I wanted to write a Mortal Kombat-like story because it’s one of my favorite games, except it turned out to be a little (a lot) different since I wanted Hikaru to be like Hanzo “Scorpion” Hasashi and Magnus to be like Kuai “Sub-zero” Liang, and the problem is that Hikaru is the one who has an older brother and Magnus has 3 sisters. I made it work somehow. So the way it will be: Hikaru will not have a wife and a son in this, but I might write a story like this. Magnus has an adopted older brother. And I gave Hikaru an older sister, I don’t know, don’t ask why. Well, as Hikaru once said: “It is what it is.” I hope you enjoy the story.

Jack holds out a hand — the same one with the pink leash still wrapped around it, and the neighbour’s brows furrow in amusement as he stares down at it, a slight uptick at the corner of his mouth. “I’m Daniel,” he says coolly, entirely too put together and collected for a man who’s just been kicked in the leg by a box, and he shakes Jack’s hand slowly. His skin is cold to the touch, and it’s more than a little distracting. “It’s nice to meet you.”
“Oh, I highly doubt that,” Jack blurts out, and cringes back the moment he says it. Below him, Goldie whines, as though to signify that she, too, thinks he’s said the wrong thing again. “I just meant— Well, this can’t have been nice.”
“A simple hello would have sufficed,” Daniel says, and the slight smile widens into a full-out smirk, “but I suppose having boxes lobbed at me is sure to leave an impression.”

Jack Wilder still hasn't met the elusive new neighbour who's just moved in nextdoor. The first meeting does not go quite as planned — but they make it work.

He quickly discovers that he's wrong.

Jack kills Mabry, finds out the Horsemen are actually alive, and proceeds to have a breakdown. Dylan reframes the picture--after all, when it comes to ensuring their team stays alive, ruthlessness is more of a gift than a curse.
