    Summary

Before the Rogi became a nation, the East was entrusted to Nicephore, a dutiful king who ruled with fire and courage. To aid him (and to keep loneliness at bay), he founded the Order of the King's Standard, an institution of knights and priests sworn to counsel him and guide the realm.

But peace is a fragile thing. From the eastern mountains came whispers of rival tribes uniting under a single banner, intent on the East's destruction. Nicephore and the Knights of the King's Standard marched forth to defend their people and their crown.

Later generations would venerate him as a saint, but in his own time, Nicephore was a man beset by melancholy, regret, and guilt. To save his kingdom, he would have to overcome those shadows, bend the mountains to the Rogue standard … or perish, giving everything he had in the attempt.

Or the Matter of Rogue, or the Nicephorian Cycle.

    Summary

Carmichaelton is a quiet county on the edge of unrest, where old scars from war still ache and new threats stir beyond the forest. Into this fragile peace wanders Nicander, a mysterious errant knight whose arrival unsettles as much as it inspires.

Drawn into the struggles of the town and the stern Assessor who governs it, Nicander must choose between drifting on as an exile or standing firm as Carmichaelton’s defender. When the shadow of siege falls across the walls, vows will be tested, bonds will be forged, and legends will be born.

The Exactor spun, his fleshy face colouring at the interruption. “And who are you to interfere in lawful collection? Some drifter with too much tongue and too little sense?”

“Not just any drifter.” Nicander bowed low, mockingly grand. “I am the Errator, defender of the downtrodden, scourge of tyranny both great and small, and sworn foe of men who think a chain around their neck makes them mighty.”

    Summary

In the age before the Nova Marks became a nation, the West was entrusted to Marcia (pronounced 'mah-SEE-ə'), a reluctant ruler who preferred ink-stained scrolls to crowns (and letters, of a sort, to her close friend). With her dour advisor Margh (pronounced 'MAHK') at her side, she founded the Order of the Flame—knights and priests sent to face strange troubles at the edges of her realm.

From stone statues haunting the coast, to storms that defy the sky, to wooden men walking the dark forest, each trial becomes more than a tale of danger, but as lessons and stories that would shape a people and echo into myth, legend and holy text.

At the heart of it all is Marcia herself. Eccentric, brilliant but stubborn Marcia, remembered as a saint though she never quite believed herself one (or behaved like one for that matter).

Or the Matter of Nova, or the Marcian Cycle.

    Summary

The Nova Marks and Rogi never got along.

For a thousand years they were divided by a river that bled from a sibling squabble.

This, then, is that story. As preserved in the Consuétude.
