Dongsik tilts his head, blinking up at him. “It’s 'stop this' and 'stop that,' isn’t it? What do you want me to do?”
Juwon reddens, further, at what he’d been hoping for. He doesn’t know what he was picturing—maybe a silent fuck, with no words whispered, but simply the mechanics of going through it, and then washing himself carefully and never talking about it again—but watching Dongsik now, he knows it’s going to be more complicated than that.
Juwon wants. This is what happens when he voices that desire.

Dongsik looks up at him, his smile perched just at the corner of his mouth. “Try not to think so loud, Juwon-ah,” he says. “You’re off duty, you know?”

Summary
“I have something new for you,” Kwon Hyeok says, setting down a stack of flashcards.
I love flashcards, a fifteen-year-old Juwon doesn’t say. He only reaches out to square them with the corner of the table. Hyeok sighs.
“Listen to me,” he orders. Juwon stares at his nose instead of his eyes. He picks up the top flashcard and flips it up in front of his face so Juwon will stare at that instead.

“Happy,” Juwon says, repeating the bolded word at the bottom of the flashcard. It’s the first time he’s spoken since waking, and his voice feels hoarse. He rubs at his throat. Sometimes, on Hyeok’s days off, he spends the whole day silent.
Hyeok lowers the card and studies him. “You’re smart. I don’t feel like this will be a hard thing to learn, but you’ll have to actually look at people’s faces instead of staring at their shoes.”

He wakes up to pearl-grey morning light coming through the old lace curtains of Dongsik's window. He's wearing an old stretched-out shirt and sweatpants, not his own. Beside him, arm tucked under the pillow, Dongsik sleeps.
Hot panic rushes over him. He dimly remembers getting into the shower, being guided by Dongsik's hands. Being handed these clothes, tugging the shirt over his head. Accepting a patter of explanations from Dongsik on why it would be better that he just stay the night. And he remembers everything before that.
He squeezes his eyes shut, as though he can disappear back into sleep. Dongsik makes a small sound, shifts slightly against the pillow, and Juwon's eyes fly open again. If he is here when Dongsik wakes up, he will have to say something, and that is impossible.

Joowon hasn’t said much about work this week, which fits a pattern Dongsik has been piecing together. A few late nights, cases Joowon doesn’t want to talk about, and a sudden fit of self-denial in the bedroom. There are bad weeks in their line of work, weeks when nobody wins and you see things broken that won’t be fixed. Dongsik has seen worse ways of coping. So he makes noodles and doesn’t ask about Joowon’s day, and doesn’t comment when Joowon sits closer than usual on the couch.

Summary
“Stay the night, Juwon-ah?” Dongsik’s face in the dim light of the alleyway holds the same expression it did in the bright butcher shop, but his eyes hold a sudden spark now. Something akin to expectation and hope.
Juwon’s heart sinks at his words. The truth is, Juwon has never dated anyone before, nor has he ever sought it. For him, Dongsik’s words light something inside him, and it burns. It’s not the usual warmth he brings to Juwon’s cheeks; this feeling is sharp, unsafe to touch. He knows he cares for Dongsik, knows he loves him, but Juwon can’t give Dongsik what he is asking for. His chest stings at the realisation that he can’t be enough for Dongsik.
“Hyung, I’m sorry,” Juwon’s head hangs low. “I’m sorry.”
(or: Juwon rejects Dongsik's advances, but soon realises he can't let him go when Dongsik starts going on dates.)
