The morning after, Anders wakes up with night terrors in an unfamiliar part of Skyhold, and meets an older version of himself. Logan, meanwhile, waking to find Anders gone, goes looking for him and meets one Marian Hawke, who was trapped in the Fade after Adamant until she was drawn to this alternate version of Skyhold like everyone else.

Summary
In a modern, no-magic, all-humans AU, the Dragon Age franchise is a long-running MMO, with some of the characters from the games as NPCs in the MMO lore, but some of them as players - particularly the Kirkwall crew as Hawke's guild. Anders is a scholarship pre-med student who can barely feed himself, and spends his evenings healing dungeons for his guild and pining after Logan Hawke. Hawke is a 24 year old high school dropout who never went to college. He runs a business with Varric, still lives with his mother and Carver, isn't out to his family as gay, and spends his free evenings making moony eyes at his computer screen whenever Anders shows up.
Somehow they get thrown into a very real Skyhold, along with other Dragon Age characters from alternate timelines, and while there's some very real, very weird magic shit going on, mostly this seems to present an excuse to get their heads out of their asses and figure out they're in love with each other.

"You two nearly got yourselves into serious trouble on a simple mission because of your inattentiveness, and that is not the kind of thing I, as your Commander, as your goddamn friend, can let slide. If you don't sort out whatever shit is going on between you, you are going to get someone killed."
They're looking down the barrel of a war that none of them might make it out of, and Commander Shepard is not about to tell her crew they can't take their happiness wherever it may come. Whatever is going on between James and Kaidan, she's happy to let it be. Until it becomes clear that something has come between them, and it's affecting both of them, and their performance.
Of course, what she doesn't realise, is that the "something" between them, is her.

This work is a data-driven analysis of the "Dragon Age - All Media Types" tag on Archive of Our Own. It contains all sorts of graphs and statistics about body of work created by Dragon Age fans on Ao3, made using data I've collected about pairing categories, wordcount, ratings, tags, and hitcount (to name just a few of my variables). I point to interesting trends, relationships, and tidbits in the data in as friendly and engaging a way as possible.
