Hubert hid for many years, behind his hair, behind his scowl, and behind his venomous words. He hid because he was ashamed of his father’s role in the Insurrection, and he was consumed by the guilt of knowing that he, Hubert, was in the end responsible for his father’s deeds. A von Vestra was supposed to love the von Hresvelgs above all others, but one father had dared to love his son more.
