The room warmed, each article softened as the night’s darkness bled away. When I turned again to face it, I found it transformed - golden, as if dipped with honey. The sun painted each dark wall with warm light, in the same shades and tones as it had in our family halls of Geneva.
A deep hollowness opened in my chest. Glancing up I found Henry’s clear eyes distant, and I wondered if he felt it too.

The muffled sound of a phone ringing cuts Rouge's lament off. She huffs, feigning irritation at the offending noise, but looks at Shadow expectantly. Shadow grumbles, pulling the phone out of his quills and pressing answer, not bothering to look at the caller ID. Anyone calling him during working hours is very aware of the risks.
"You've reached Shadow," the dark hedgehog drones unenthusiastically. He hears some shuffling on the other side, followed by some deep breaths, then,
"Shadow-?" Tails' meek voice drifts through his speaker, almost too soft to catch. Shadow's previous annoyance disappears instantly as he recognises the kit's voice.

Summary
Sonic is totally fine after he returns from the Death Egg and the war is over. Losing his breath and thinking the world isn't real sometimes doesn't mean he isn't fine, not that his friends would understand that. Besides, flowers usually make him feel all better, so it isn't even that bad!
Shadow catches on, though, and he's surprisingly... helpful with the flowers thing. Even when he doesn't need to be.
Now if only he'd stop acting like something is wrong. After all, Sonic is fine

They're fighting a losing battle. Sonic can tell, though he doesn't want to admit it. Eggman's wearing them down, sending out robots at a frequency their little team can't handle. There have been at least four different times when Sonic was certain the battle was about to end, only for the doctor to send out a new wave of badniks. It seems like the more they kill, the more Eggman manages to spawn in. Sonic really doesn't like their odds.

It is a little jarring, when that corruption finally leaves him. He’s not sure what truly does the trick, maybe that last little push from Sage, or just some little parting gift from what remains of the Ancients. Sonic isn’t sure. Whatever the case may be, his body cannot decide if he should cry, or pass out.
The same must be true for the rest of his friends, because as he casts a weary glance over them all, they look equally as strained. But Chaos, it is good to see them whole, well and truly whole. Though unscathed might not be an accurate term, for any of them.
