Summary
As the third-in-line to the throne, Frerin never has a great deal of responsibility. It seems that any sort of ruling he might have to do is decades away. But when Smaug attacks Erebor, Frerin finds himself deep within the mountain with no way of escape. Accompanied by a few lucky survivors, he must take up the role of leadership and learn how to keep his people alive in the bowels of the Lonely Mountain - and hopefully, find a way to escape. Trouble, however, comes not just from their reptilian neighbor and the dangers of uncharted caverns, but from within the group itself, as concerns arise questioning a fifteen-year-old prince's ability to lead the last of the Dwarves of Erebor.

"I don't think you understand," Merlin said as he started walking backwards, brows wrinkled in confusion. "I can rip your throat out with my teeth and drink your blood. Does that not bother you?" He asked. Arthur finally glanced up from the papers in his hand to look at him, pausing his steps altogether. Merlin waited.
"...Merlin, you fell over trying to put boots on." He said. Merlin grimaced, looking down at his feet.
"I hadn't realized you were supposed to wear them all the time." He muttered, uncertain what this had to do with the fact he could murder everyone within a ten mile radius. Arthur sighed. "And those are bold words from someone who can't dress himself!" He added indignantly. Another sigh. Humans did that a lot as it turned out.
"Merlin, that's your job."
"And I've taught you several times. It isn't that hard."
"No, I - " Arthur started and closed his eyes. "I don't have time for this."

After living with demons for sixteen years, Merlin decides to explore his human side by venturing to Camelot. Also, he has a destiny to unite his species and bring magic back into Camelot, but he's not too worried about that.

October, 2257: the ten year anniversary of the Tarsus IV Massacre. Jim Kirk is getting by like he usually does around the time of the anniversary until one of his instructors assigns a reading that brings all the horrors of Tarsus back to the surface. And Leonard McCoy, clueless of his boyfriend's past, finds himself at a loss. With only a cryptic warning and a request to look after her son from Winona Kirk, Leonard begins to piece things together himself and help Jim cope with the trauma. And while the horrors of Tarsus will continue to haunt him, Jim finds solace in finally speaking to someone about what happened and knowing he's got Leonard McCoy looking out for him.
