This wasn’t right, Tommy knew that. It was Friday night. He should have been at home by now, getting popcorn ready for the movie night he always had with his family. He was supposed to be nagging Wilbur about why they shouldn’t watch whatever stupid movie he wanted to watch because he just knew it would be a horrible movie, probably another rom-com. Techno should have been in the kitchen making drinks for everyone while Phil was ordering pizza, and leaning against the counter. Tommy could see the picture so clearly in his mind.
Not alone in an alleyway, probably on the edge of death's door.

Summary
Wilbur never woke up during those moments, but sometimes Tommy thought he was only pretending to be asleep like Tommy used to do when he was little, and Wilbur had to carry him to bed from whatever late-night drive they had gone on that day.
"Goodnight, sunshine," Tommy whispered as he tucked the quilt around Wilbur's curled-up body.
He ignored how his voice cracked as he tried to sound like Wilbur.
