Summary
Jayce Talis is forty-one, married, and miserable. Once a promising poet, he gave it all up when his wife became pregnant at a young age, and now he teaches evening classes at the local community college, trapped in a marriage that has long since turned into a friendship. His son is thriving, his life is stable, but Jayce hasn’t written a real line in years.
Then there’s Viktor Reveck— twenty-three, poor, disabled, and brilliant. A Czech transplant who works full-time while scraping through school, Viktor takes Jayce’s poetry course two nights a week and quickly becomes the first student in years to actually see him. Engaged. Curious. Hungry. His poems cut deeper than either of them wants to admit.
What begins as admiration becomes obsession: long nights circling the drain of want, stolen moments after class, confessions over wine. Jayce knows he should stop. He has a wife, a son, and a life. But Viktor makes him feel alive again, and he can’t decide if he wants Viktor’s talent, his heart, or his body…maybe all three.

Jayce never really believed in ghosts.
But after Viktor dies, the house won’t stop echoing. A familiar voice in the hallway. Two cups left out. The dent of a body on Viktor’s side of the bed. And eventually, the voice becomes clearer. The silence begins to answer back.
And maybe—if Jayce keeps the curtains drawn, the rug crooked, the cardigan folded just right—Viktor will stay.
