Snapping Megumi out of his haze was the sharp cry of an ambulance driving by. Then a police car, harmonizing a solemn song to rescue whatever needed rescuing. Watching from the window of the breakroom, the city night seemed still. Too still. The kind of stillness that would make you lock your windows and sleep with the lights on. He quietly grabbed the remote and flicked on the television.

Megumi raised his brow, and tuned into the next channel. A rom-com, with some cheesy man about to propose to a bashful woman before a navy screen overtakes it.
