    Summary

Normal people close their eyes and accept that everyone is happy all the time, so he should be too. Richie tries to be normal, he does, but more often than not he forgets that he’s included in people and then the normal part quickly falls off and he stares at Eddie’s closed eyelids until the sun comes up and wonders if he really exists or if he’s just someone that Richie’s constructed; if he’s just an amalgamation of the parts he remembers, stitched back together to make a creature that will do what Richie says and loves him back, just like he’s always wanted.

(or: All seven of them make it out of Neibolt, apparently. Richie's not too sure if that's what really happened.)

    Summary

“Looks like your wife put a hit on you, dude.” A wave of patient understanding washes over Richie’s face, “I’m just gonna let that sink in a minute.”

    “A hit? Like-”

“She wants you dead, man. I don’t know how else to tell you.”

“Richie,” Eddie scoffs, “Bro. Come on. Like I’m supposed to believe that?”

“That your wife wants you dead?” He asks, genuinely concerned. “I know it’s a lot-”

“Actually, that I believe,” Eddie interrupts. “But, come on, dude. What the hell is-” Eddie swallows nervously. “You can’t be a-” he laughs at the idea, “No fucking way in hell did Trashmouth grow up to be a hitman!”

    // you're the only friend I need
    sharing beds like little kids
laughing 'til our ribs get tough
but that will never be enough //
    ---
Almost every time the lights turn off and they cram in the shitty twin bed, Richie seems to become a different person. Maybe not different, per say, but the stupid jokes and teasing die down, the guard of nonchalance dropping. Eddie feels lucky to see this side of Richie, soft and caring—vulnerable. It’s not like he hates the other side of Richie, he secretly enjoys their constant banter and his dumb jokes. No, it’s that this side is rare, and it’s something beautiful. Here, safe in the soft flannel sheets, it feels like they are the only two souls for miles, and they can be themselves, and that is terrifying and reassuring all at once.
“I’m gonna miss this. When we go off to college,” Richie admits, the weight behind his words telling Eddie he felt the same about their shared nights.
“Yeah,” Eddie agrees softly, “me too.”

    Summary

“I’m tellin’ you, those people are up to some shit.”
“Who? What are they up to?”
“There’s a group of hippies living in the woods up a ways east of the Kenduskeag. They’re a bunch of weirdos, I’m telling you.”
    “What makes you say that?”
    ------
“You should stay out of the woods. You shouldn’t come back here,” he warns quietly, and Eddie blinks at him.
“I don’t plan on it,” Eddie assures, and he feels weirdly exposed as the man’s blue-gray eyes rake over him, no doubt taking in his appearance, and how disheveled he looks.
    “It’s dangerous.”
    “I know.”
    ----
Journalist Eddie Kaspbrak is sent on an assignment to investigate a string of disappearances in a rural county of Northern Maine, which seem to be centered around a small tourist town by the name of Derry. What was thought to be a simple case of people getting lost in the woods turns to potentially be something much more sinister, and Eddie isn't sure that he wants to find the truth anymore. Or, perhaps he does, after he meets a charming man with striking blue eyes in those same woods, who seems to know more than he's letting on.
