Kageyama also remembers that he'd failed utterly at getting to talk to him. He'd been baffled about it at the time; what kind of setter doesn't want to talk about setting? But maybe this is the answer. Maybe Nekoma's setter - ("Kenma," Hinata chides frustratedly the third or fourth time he says it, “his name is Kenma") - maybe Kenma-san is just bad face-to-face. Kageyama can understand that, to some extent, although he doesn't quite understand why that would extend to talking to him about volleyball, but fine. He can accommodate this, if that's what it takes. He asks for Kenma's contact information immediately. Hinata copies it into his phone with a weird, sour face, muttering, "I mean it, Kageyama, you better not be a jerk to him." Kageyama has no idea what Hinata is insinuating, and he forgets the comment almost immediately.

Up here, the air is cold and crisp. His hands are growing numb on the metal railing, but he doesn’t let go. The cold makes him feel alive, makes him feel as if he is shedding his layers: the son, the brother, the student, the cold, distant friend who always wears a smile while always staying three steps away.
He closes his eyes and lets the breeze numb his face. There are no more outer layers of skin; there is only himself and the quiet surrounding him.

"I'm - I wanted - to, um - " Shou hated this tongue-tied feeling, hated not being able to talk to Ritsu about this thing that was so important to him. It was about Ritsu, goddammit!
So instead of opening his fucking mouth like a normal person, Shou steeled as much courage as possible and shoved the painting into Ritsu's hands.

“Alright then. I’m Shou,” he says, introducing himself more properly this time. “I’m an esper, like you, the first in existence to be forcibly awoken by Claw’s crazy torture machines. They kidnap kids with potential latent psychic powers and break them, over and over, until either their powers emerge or they die. It doesn’t matter either way to them.” His expression hardens as he speaks, clear distaste and outright malice evident in his tone. “I could really use your help here, you know. A partner of sorts, someone to watch my back. What do you say?"
Ritsu hesitates. He isn’t a fighter by any means, and the psychic powers now churning beneath his skin are still very new and frightening. It’s all very overwhelming, but Ritsu can’t help but feel a sort of sickening hope at Shou’s promise for revenge. It did have a sort of dark draw to it.
In which Claw is a lot worse than they seem and Shigeo isn't able to find his brother after he's kidnapped.
