He could have remade the days when Hythlodaeus and he went to class together. Or the time that followed shortly after in which they learned how to love each other for the first time. Or the easy years that followed when Azem had joined them and their largest concerns were diverting the Convocation’s attention from his well-intentioned schemes.
Instead, Hades erected a constant reminder of duty. A perpetual indictment against his perceived past failures.

Summary
Ryne and the Warrior of Light investigate the Crystarium's newest arrivals, a pair of mystel sporting miqo'te names, on the suspicion that they might be Ascian. Their suspicions turn out to be correct, but not in a way they could have ever expected.
The twins, M'elia and M'ezran, claim to be the shards of a soul the Warrior thought gone, and their knowledge of recent events and ancient concepts makes it hard for him to doubt.
The Warrior must decide what to do with them. Can he justify returning them to the Source, given their past life's deeds?
Does he even have a right to judge M'elia and M'ezran for crimes committed by a man who was neither?
Morals and duty clash with desire as the Warrior tries to solve a pair of new old problems.

Summary
The wizards are flirting.
It’s not the first time Caduceus has noticed the interest present in the two men. That’s been present since the first meeting, a spark in their eyes as they converse or a quick squeeze of a forearm. The two have always gravitated toward each other, their taste for the arcane and high intelligence fostering a connection that runs to their very core though both have at times tried to ignore or manipulate that bond.
But this, he muses as he watches the two men bounce ideas off of each other while standing in front of some dunamantic tubes, this is different. Their heads are coming closer without their notice and Essek holds out a purple gem to Caleb with eyes softer than Caduceus has seen in him. This is comfortable. This is intentional. This is Essek opening up and taking another step on his journey of becoming better. This is Caleb doing the same. Caduceus smiles broadly.
Oh, that’s nice. That’s really nice.

“Are they fading?” Essek asks, sitting down on the floor. It’s not in a dignified “oh, look at me, I don’t need to touch the floor when I walk because I am just that fancy, my toes aren’t freezing from the cold” way. He plops down. He grabs Caleb’s hand immediately, looking at the eye as ― and she can see it on herself, too ― the last remnants disappear.
Beau raises her head for a second, kisses Yasha’s cheek before returning to where she was a second ago. “Fuck yeah,” she tells her, and Yasha’s relieved laugh lets her know she agrees.
“We’ll have to check the others later, but ― it seems so,” Caleb says after a second.
Essek is still grabbing Caleb’s hand ― not holding, but grabbing, desperately clutching it like the weight of the world on his shoulders just got transferred to someone else. “That’s good,” he mutters, barely audible.
